| My friends boat has his transom rotted out it is a 17 ft fiberglass in the 2005-2006 age and the 135 motor can't be bolted back into it the transom is so bad,,worth it to fix or a nightmare,,any ideas on what a shop or factory might charge. |

| No idea on cost. However, is he in the mood to buy a NEW hull? The options it seems to me is fix it or buy new. If he doesn't use it much then it might be worth it for him to fix. I dunno, I don't like spending other peoples money.  |

Location: Northern Illinois | Check out Sea Cast website. If hull and engine are good, transom can be better than new. This is way more common than people know. If you're not handy, a dealer will do it for the high end of what Steve said but it will be viable again.

| Well if yo can't get into a 5 year old boat or newer may as well fix it. The costs on my old 1998 boat new with troller 200hp and sonar was 22,000 the same make and model in a 2017 is 67,000... Replacing transoms is not really hard for someone prepared and has tools. Many can be made to last forever and is worth it if that is all that's wrong. New boats are nice but have to consider that you may be buying someone else's problems that could be worse than your buddys |

| Reinforce a fiberglass boat transom is an ideal solution for a boat owner to ensure the transom stays tough because it supports the engine or motor that makes your boat work. The finishing touch still involves epoxy; you have to fill in the gaps. Sand the excess epoxy on the edges so you don’t need to revive the fiberglass skin. The plywood shouldn’t be carried to the edge of the transom.

Location: Duluth | Depends what kind of boat. if the stringers are also wet. Transom could just be the beginning.
Geography is a pretty important factor as well, are you in an area where say sailboat racing is big, if so you'll likely find top notch glasswork. If your geography is populated by marinas that cater to the outboard crowd, you might have to look a little harder.
Literally don't know until they know the full extent of the damage but I'd be prepared to spend at least 5k, and if it comes in less then enjoy your "new boat". |

| 10 years back i had the transom fail on my 692. There was an issue where the silicone between deck halves would push out and water gets in and if it freezes it would split them.
At that time it was a $4500 quote from Ranger. And that would have been nice and like new, but i couldn't afford at the time.
So I bought some sea cast and some basic glassing supplies and decided to do it myself. Its still stronger today than it was when it was new, just doesn't look as pretty. If you want to keep the boat for yourself and make a good safe strong fix, some basic skills can do that. If you want it to be pretty and want to sell it, probably paying for a professional is the way to go |
