Subject: Helix 7 base map?

Hey Guys:

I am used to having Lowrance HDS, but decided to add a Helix 7 to the dash this year in addition.

I thought the Helix 7 would come loaded with some sort of base map? My buddy's Helix 9 did. However, the Helix 7 is completely blank.

I was out on White Bear Lake and it does show the outline of the lake, but there is nothing marked.

I swear his had a basic map (much less detail than a Lakemaster chip) loaded on his.

Let me know if you guys know anything.

Thanks
Chemi

None of the Helix 7s come with the ContourXD feature, which is what your friend's Helix 9 had. You need to get a lake map chip. Either that, or get an Autochart Zero Lines card and map lakes yourself, if your Helix 7 model came with the Autochart Plus feature, like my Helix 7 SI GPS G2N did.

Thanks Chimi. I'm kicking myself for not getting the 9.

Between not knowing it only had 1 map chip slot and not having the Countour Xd map. Ugh

Yep, and it requires an update to the firmware which they just published, too.

There is a different version of the base map for Helix 5/7 and the Helix 9/10/12. However, there is a wealth of data available for fishing on both versions. Lakes on the base map will have navigation information and some contour information to get most started in the right direction.

For those looking for more detailed mapping, a LakeMaster card will provide 1' contours on many lakes and the ability to perform depth highlight, shallow water highlight and water level offset on your map.
