Hey Guys,

Will the lodge be able to provide us with fishing licenses??  Or should we buy them before we arrive at camp?? ....if we should buy them before we get there, where do we get them at??

Also, do we need a Minnesota and Canada license, or will a Canadian license do it for the areas we're fishing??

My understanding is that the Lodge has Licenses, we will only need the Canada Conservation License

I went on the Ministry's web page (link provided on the lodge's site) that discussed licenses. They suggest getting a full license if you go muskie fishing. Two reasons: if the fish you catch becomes injured by the fight to the point it cannot be properly released, you may decide to keep it; also, they say, you have a very real chance of hooking a record - size fish; a conservation license will not let you keep it. For a dozen dollars more, seems like a safer bet. mm

Here's a report copied from the Muskies, Inc. board:
Just got back from two weeks up there. If you are fishing Sabaskong the bloom will be there. However, you'd be surprised how easy it is to find clearer water. The lake is still low (I don't know the exact figures) but only a real threat if you're traveling through shallow water. Don't cut across points, swing wide; do not take off from 6 ft of water (learned the hard way); always make sure you know where you are. we found it best to stay on one of the tracks (North or South) or the Sunset Chain or one of the secondary tracks, then cut down to where you want to fish. The fishing was pretty good. We didn't boat as many as I'd hoped but we got a few, plus a 48" so I can't complain. Almost all the fish we found were on the lee side of islands. The 48" and one we saw that went 50+ came from southwest facing bays that hadn't been touched by wind for some time. We found hair (bucktails and spinnerbaits) and buckless bucktails (Lilly Tail) got the most action. Weren't able to get too many to even look at a topwater. I wouldn't over look it though. Heard others were moving fish throwing crankbaits across rocky points. Good luck! Stick a pig!

If you put in at Morson, North pier there is a little store where you can get your license while launching, it is the same place where you will be paying for parking your trailer. Get some Coffee Crisp candy bars, they are great and you can only get them in Canada. Al

Yup, get your License at Pier North. 2 kinds available, a conservation, and a full. I have a yearly full, and I think I paid $60 Can. The 1 week license is about half that. Conservation license is less, but then you cannot keep a 54+ ski, should you decide, and only 2 eyes and pike, or something like that.

1 week, 6 hr.s til we leave!!!

The way my luck goes if I get a full License I will never get the 54+ Ski but with a conservation License I will get one because I will have to let it go, besides Graphite are looking darn good and I won's have to transport the beast?

1 week from now I'll be on the road!!!!!!

Also, TECK had a question about the water in camp. I checked with the lodge, they drink bottled water. Water is filtered but they don't consume it. A case of bottled water from the store prolly isn't a bad idea. It has really been hot up there last couple weeks but they expect it to cool down so jackets for the morning and evening are recommended. There are no laundry facilities for our use there so bring enough clothes to last the week. I've got a whole case of microwave popcorn, the microwave is in the lodge we are free to use it. Each cabin does have electricity ( a change from some outpost camps I've been where everything is propane). Save travels! m
