| Hey,
I have heard a ton about Reef Hawgs but have never fished one before. I went out and purchased a 6" Hawg. I like the action on it but I have a question for the Reef Hawg veterans out there.
Do they all sink tail first ? Mine sinks at a right angle to the waters surface. Is this normal ?
Just wondering,
PS . . Any one willing to share a nifty trick or two on how to use the little bugger.

I won't buy a Reef Hawg unless I can put it in a tank. If it doesn't sink tail down, it doesn't get bought. IMO, you got a good one.
As far as tips, I like to work mine with light taps, about 6-12" at the rod tip, and allow the line to slack slightly immediately after. This gets a good side to side. Don't forget to work in some pauses. I use a 9" solid leader.

Do any of you take the fron two hooks out and put a single hook in between, while weighting the old hanger holes? I do this with some of my suicks, but I'm wondering if it will work on the reefers as well. |

I burned a 3 gal pail full of 6 and 8 inchers this spring....Yep that's right started my leaf pile on fire with the damn things. They were all ones that drove me nuts trying to get them to work and I got a ton of pleasure in lighting their smiling faces on fire....
They are a very productive bait at the right time of year. Great on flowages/rivers. |

Location: Oshawa, Ontario | I love the 6 "ers. I fish them FAST and very erratic. If possible I also soak them in a p[ail of water overnight, this gives them a more neutral buoyancy. One other tip, is to split ring the rear hook and then put shrink wrap tube around the split ring/hanger - this keeps the rear hook from occasionally sticking in the top rear of the bait and fouling the action.

Location: Rhinelander | Jerk it with light taps, put a split ring on the eye that attaches to the leader for better side to side action. And soak it in water as said earlier for better side to side action. |
