Location: Contrarian Island | so I know I could search on here and find a few threads but looking for the most recent data/recommendations. Ranger dual axle trailer, I think 14" rims, on a 690. I have had good luck with Good Year Marathons but have heard lots of sketch reviews in the last year. So, anyone had good/bad luck with Carlisle? any other good recommendations for that size rim. I don't think I can do Light Truck tires on that size rim? Thx.

Posts: 1209 | Marathons went to crap when they were made in China. Kuhmo857 and carlilse hd have good and bad reviews. But the new BA tire out for 14" rims is good year endurance. Nearly double the load rating and 65 psi. I have a set of 4 on my trailer and wow I'm impressed. I have only heard of one fluke tire for them so far. They are nice but most people have only had them since spring. I have 5000 miles on mine and they are amazing me. Well worth the 40% higher cost of a cheepo tire

Posts: 1209 | Yup! Was going to add I did get about 20,000 miles on my four Carlisle's but there were two mint and two trashed but mine were not the new HD tread. Something like to much speed or creaping over a curb seemed to break the belts inside of them cause the wear was terrible or May have lost the wheel weights as well. But yes the endurance American made has been doing good. Carries my load better especially with a 87mph rating and some extra air. Edited by Fishysam 6/7/2017 3:22 PM

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | Don't know if you're in the same boat as I am with my 690, but it takes 215/75R14, and near impossible to find anything in that size in more than a B or C rated tire. I did find a D on etrailer and bought a set and so far so good. But I will check out these new Goodyear if they are available in a 215/14

Posts: 2024 | I just upgraded from a 13 inch to 14 inch rim and went with the Kumho 857s. Pricey, but reviews are good. Endurance seemed too new to risk hauling 1200 miles.

Posts: 3480 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya!! I did a bit of research a few years ago when I had to replace my marathons. Knowing Marathons had gone down in quality, I chose to go a different route... I found great reviews on Green Ball Tow Master tires, and to be honest, they have been great!! I am going on 5 years right now with mine, and they are holding up well. With good rotation each year or two , and keeping them out of sunlight, they are doing well. The good thing is they now offer a higher speed rated tire with a rating of L (75mph) in multiple sizes from 13" and up, they are stepping up to the plate with how fast people are on the road these days. But...BUT...the best thing I have found so far? The tread warranty is 4+ years, written in plain black and white on their flyer. Take a look: http://www.greenball.com/catalog/Special-Trailer-Radial.pdf I know when it is time to replace, I'm going back with them...they have been great!! Steve

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | Steve, TowMaster is what I used the last 5 years. Blew 5 tires in that time. I think they are still just a C rated tire. My problem is I think I'm at the max for weight and unless inflation is good (high) they're just not enough tire

Posts: 3480 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, You might be correct on that, but if your trailer is correctly matched to your rig, you should have plenty of extra capacity on the trailer as compared to the boat fully loaded. I know there are a ton of rigs out there that have been matched to a certain price point, and one area where the deals get to a nice price point is putting a trailer under the boat that is only enough for the boat when empty... But even with that, the weight capacity of the tire itself should be well over half the rated capacity of the trailer. For example....my trailer is a 2300 lb trailer. Each tire is rated to 1870 pound capacity, which gives it a total of 3740 pounds...well over the rated capacity of the trailer. I even installed brakes on the trailer, which through Shoreland'r, would make the trailer's capacity 3100 lbs (and yes...checked with shoreland'r on this...the only change in capacity on the size I have were brakes). I'd be curious if that is the case or if you might be like me once in a while, going faster than the rated speed on the trailer? I'd also be interested to see what the tires looked like if the tread remained after the blow out... the wear pattern can tell you a bunch about what is going on. Blowing out 5....I don't think I'd be looking at the tires as the problem... I think I'd be wanting to check the trailer for potential alignment issues. I also had a former buddy of mine who went through tires left and right...could tell the axle was bent, and he ended up replacing the entire axle to fix the issue... He'd go through a set every year... His axle was not square to the frame, thus his trailer was bouncing a bit as it went down the road as the trailer fought the path of the truck. His tires became out of round...quickly... Towmaster does make Load range D and up, but they are 15" rim and larger, which are made for 5th wheel/travel trailer types. Steve

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | Mines a 95 Ranger 690 with a single axle trailer. My buddy has a 96 and they went to a dual axle. I figure I'm at least 3500 lbs or more, which is why I say I'm borderline with the weight on those two tires. I've had my axle and spindles checked 3 times and they all say they're in good shape. Don't know what to tell you but so far so good on these D rated, which I think is 4450 lbs between the two.

Posts: 269 Location: Oregon, WI | I'm not in the market for tires, but looked to see what Greenball ones would cost and found them at Costco: https://www.costco.com/Greenball-Towmaster-SS-Special-Trailer-Radial... Depending on size $45-$99. These seem to be priced much lower than the tires I've replaced on my trailers in the past.

Location: Contrarian Island | I checked reviews for Carlisles and Kumhos before ordering the new GY Endurance and you can find about as many good reviews as bad for both... the guys at 2 tire places I talked to said the new Endurance are better than the Marathons, much sturdier, better trailer tire... despite them being new I feel good about what I heard, American made, and good warranty, and D rating..let you know at end of season how they performed. https://corporate.goodyear.com/en-US/media/news/goodyear_launches_am... Posts: 3480 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Oh...yah...the old single axle trailers are definitely pushing the limits on things. Do you have room to go to a 15 inch tire? Steve
