Posts: 444 Location: Duluth, MN | Slingblade. The Long Ranger is too soft for 8's and 9's imo. I use the Long Ranger for showgirl's and smaller topwaters but wish i had went with a slingblade. Once i get into 8's and 9's and larger topwater i just use the Big Dawg. Never tried a Lip Stick

Posts: 531 | The Big Nasty or sling blade are the most versatile blanks in the LT series of rods in my experience. The long ranger is soft, like lundbob said. Not sure on the lipstick as I've never found a reason to get one.

Posts: 670 Location: mercer wi | I would go with a long ranger or a top n tail for small stuff. Both are awesome sticks. Both these rods can through small tails and twitches very well. For bigger stuff and big blades I'd go sling blade or nasty. These are hands done the best all around blanks st Croix makes. You can through small baits up to mag Dawgs with easy and have the power behind your hook sets. I never liked the lip stick. It's a mod action and super slow response to the blank.

Posts: 61 | I have a long ranger that I use for smaller bucktails, it a great rod and a joy to fish, I use it for up to 9's, I have fished a big nasty it's an awesome rod, I checked out a sling blade this weekend also an awesome rod. Hard to go wrong with any of them.

Posts: 104 | I use a top n tail for that application, musky killers, mepps #5's, rattle traps, etc. little less whip than the Lone Ranger but I use it for smaller twitch/Glide baits as well. I didnt want the longer length for the Glide baits and dont want the extra flex in the 8 for larger bucks.

Posts: 404 | I would strongly recommend the Sling Blade over Long Ranger for midsized blades and crank baits. It is the perfect combination of power and action for those 2 applications

Posts: 983 | I use an 8ft Top and tail for small cranks glides and twitch baits work great for those baits

Posts: 668 Location: Wisconsin | I have a TopnTail for the smaller baits, which I like, but a few years back I bought a Slingblade and now I rarely use the TopnTail. The Slingblade throws pretty much everything that I frequently use. Even my smaller baits are handled well with the Slingblade. If I was only getting one rod, it would be a Slingblade. If you are only throwing the smaller baits, than I would say a Top n Tail will work fine. Sometimes I like the smaller set up, for very small baits. Where are you located?? You are welcome to give mine a whirl if you are nearby. I'm in the Lake Geneva area.

Posts: 668 Location: Wisconsin | Also, hunt for a used one. I have bought two top n tails, a dawg, a nasty and a slingblade all second hand. Saved a bunch!
