| Agree with above. Good hook cutters (and a backup pair), pliers, jaw spreaders, and a net (Frabill Power Catch Big Game, Conservation 9530, or Big Kahuna are the best 3 options).
Best all around rod and reel combo imho is a 9' TI XH with a Toro S61. You can throw almost everything with that. If you want to expand your arsenal later, get a MH and a XXH and you'll be able to throw almost every lure out there with those 3 actions.
Must have lures - Double 10, prop style topwater, rubber (bulldawg or medussa), suick, and a believer. You can cover a lot of situations with just those 5 lures.
A rod holder is great to have, as is a bump board. No need to buy a fancy bump board, they are easy to make.
