I think the 2015 poll would be pretty current, there really isn't many "new lines". They don't release new lines like new lures. Whatever was most popular in 2015 is probably still popular now. |

Location: Yahara River Chain | No such thing as "best". If there was such a thing, everyone would be using it and all the other companies would go out of business. Some retain water that would make them undesirable in cold water cases. Some backlash easier, some are easier in getting out backlashes. Some have different colors and those might not be to your liking.
Unless you are going to give a detailed account on your style and method of fishing no one can answer that question honestly. |

Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | I'm going to rephrase your question a little because I have some similar questions that can't be answered by a poll. You can't really ask for the "best" anything because you will get a different answer from each person who responds. So here goes my question, hopefully it will help you too. I'm going to include power pro, 832, cortland masterbarid, and tuf-line. I picked these because they seem to be some of the more popular lines. *not necessarily best*
Questions:
1. What are some differences in these lines?
2. What line is the most accepting of different knots?
3. What line is the best for casting distance? And why?
4. What lines seem to be most abrasion resistant?
5. What lines hold less water?
6. What lines sit better on the reel and don't cut into the spool?
Go ahead and answer these questions from your experience. Thanks! |

PP, Sufix 832, Tuff Line XP, Hi Seas Grand Slam to name a few.. to the OP, I wouldn't go stripping off your PP just to switch to what someone might tell you is a "better" line. Just fish brotha. Save your money and buy a guide in your area. You will learn a ton. |

i just want to be ready when i get that first one. i have some friends to bring me fishing who have been fishing for years. i dont really need a guide though i would like to go with one once. |

| I agree! I had a lot of bad experiences with PowerPro. I'ts very prone to backlashes and I've had it just snap off on some of those backlashes. I saw enough of my prized muskie lures go sailing off into the distance never to be seen again, to abandon it for good. I started using Master Braid last year and I really like it. It does retain a lot of water, but I don't fish past the first week of October so I don't much care. |

Location: Eastern Ontario | I often wonder how many brands come out of one factory. I worked for a cheese factory that did a big house volume as well as a huge private label business. People would say I like xxx but not 000 or ### . I couldn't be bothered telling them that the only difference was the outer wrap. i do know that a lot of battery brands come out of one factory but people will argue their brand loyalty |

| Masterbraid is the softest, most memory free braid Ive used. Its also really smooth and it doesn't get its smoothness because of a wax or coating that wears off. That's how PP Slick8 is smooth, it doesn't last. I think 832 is coated too but Im not sure. For some reason you have to pull really hard to pull a double palomar knot tight with MB though, but how often are you tying? Not often for me so I just deal with pulling really hard. It does hold a lot of water but I find it excellent at not bleeding color. Holding water never bothered me that much even in December so Cortland is my favorite. It seems to last really well too. Ive used PP regular (rough but tough, casts loud and more backlash prone), PP Slick 8 (Smooth at first but doesn't wear well and bleeds color, doesn't hold much water), Suffix 832 (Nice and smooth, lasted better than Slick 8 but not perfect) and Master Braid (My favorite). I havnt tried the grand slam or the spider wire. This is how things seemed to me but its not like Ive casted 5 matching setups with different line on them. I pretty much experimented year by year.
One of my buddies got some 100# braid off of a huge spool while he was working for a famous cage diving captain in Australia and we never figured out what it was but it was the nicest, silkiest stuff ever. |

| I've used cortland master braid and power pro of various thicknesses. I don't think Cortland is that much better to make it worth switching your reels over. I've lost lures on both due to old line and backlashes. Try switching it up when your current line is shot or you get a new reel IMO. |

Thinking of putting on cortland next time i need to, but i did buy a ton of powerpro on black friday since it was on sale so that might be awhile. Like others have said your going to get a thousand answers and most lines are going to be fine as long as you get the right #.
If this thread goes on long enough you will find someone talking bad about every type of line im sure. |

I agree here couldnt believe how nice this line really is...Then when I found out its produced right here in my home state and is a smaller company I thought why not give a try and was happy I did great line and good pricing cant go wrong with the Grand slam... |

Yep, that's expected, but at least everyone can get an idea of what people like and dislike about certain braids. For example, some people say masterbraid is as dry as mono while others compare it to a sponge. |

| Hi-seas Grandslam braid is the best I have used. Been using it for 7 years.
It is strong as hell. Does not backlash easy. casts great and is easiest line that ive found to dig out backlash's and birdnest's fast from clients.

| I have PP on some and Suffix on others. Not a big difference in my mind. The only time I lost a lure because of PP snapping, it was my stupidity. I had been given a new lure and wanted to check its action before going out, so grabbed a rod from the boat and went to make a bomb cast from my dock. I did not change any thing on the reel, despite having used it last for a light bait and the new one was heavy. As a result of my stupidity, had a major backlash and the last I saw of that new lure was it cutting a lovely arc against the blue sky. With the suddenness of that stop, and a solid steel leader, anything short of parachute cord would have snapped. |
