Posts: 196 | I have an Abu 6500C3 and the reel intermittently fails to engage at the end of the cast. It is getting progressively more frequent. I've taken it apart a few times, cleaned it and inspected it and found nothing. Any ideas? (My second Abu has also done it a few times). It's only a year old and I am hard on reels. So why won't the darn thing engage?

Posts: 364 Location: in the white boat | Had this problem with one of my Abus a few years back. I forget what my good friend in Spirit Lake told me caused it, but they fixed it quick, and was only gone about a week. Do you have the contact info for Reel Repair in Spirit Lake? If not let me know and I'll post it here.

Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | It sure wouldn't hurt to look into replacing the clutch return spring(around 60 cents)or the whole clutch assembly for under 10 bucks. Either way fix it yourself you'll be glad you did. If it ever happens again you'll know exactly what it is.

Posts: 358 Location: London, England | Have a look at the step by step on my website. It's a fairly common problem and easy to fix. http://www.timkelly.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/lasreel%20maintanence2.html Good luck Tim

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | here is a great Abu site with tons of information.. http://freespace.virgin.net/dave.lumb/amb01/01index.html Anyone with an Abu should do a little reading here on their free time (like after the season ends). I emailed the guy a question also and got a quick response. I'm pretty sure he is not affiliated with abu but is just passionite about them. Hope it helps somone.

Posts: 196 | Well I took em both apart and Raze was right on and the clutch spring arm had worn...will probably order another part but did get them to work by bending the worn arm so it would engage the reel. Pretty simple once I knew where to look for wear. Also the springs are different than the website instructions from Tim. I agree about fixing them yourself as they aren't that complicated. Thanks for your help!

Posts: 364 Location: in the white boat | Kudos to you all for doing your own reel repair! My fat little fingers struggle putting the kids' Mr. Potatohead back together. Leggos frustrate the hell out of me. Glad you got it rememdied one way or another.

Posts: 938 Location: NeverNever Lake | Good Deal Dude! I order all my parts online at http://www.southwesternparts.com They have almost all the schematics for every reel out there on site. Type in the part #'s in the little box beside it and in a few days you will receive it. Edited by RAZE1 8/2/2003 9:34 PM
