Posts: 735 Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | Today was lure day for me, as I went through the small number of Muskie lures I have I realized I need more topwaters. What is your guys opinion for colors on plop baits. Belly color mostly considering the fish don't see the top. I've got one with red, one with black, and a chrome gold one. I was considering white with maybe a touch of orange or red, maybe chartreuse. What do you guys think? Considering I've haven't caught a Muskie yet, I don't really have a preference. Thanks

Posts: 230 Location: St Paul, Minnesota | Agree with Kirby. I don't look too much into topwater color at all. I look more at the action, sound, and profile. My best fat bastard, globe, and WTD look nothing like anything in nature and are all different colors. By my reasoning/understanding a fish looking up at a topwater sees a silhouette and a bunch of water disturbance. Confidence is key, color inspires confidence but is secondary. -C7

Posts: 1209 | I believe color does matter 1 day each month. But top of the bait does matter for low floating baits that roll on the twitch or for tail prop baits since I don't use them till they punch into the next wave. Now the silhouette theory I buy into. Fish are white on bottom just like warplanes, harder to see looking up at them (More natural / more finesse/ better in clear water since a fish will have to look at it to see it, investigate). Black belly in muddy water silhouettes better as well as night, louder less sutle visual ques, speed helps this as its reaction.

Posts: 192 | I have more success with bright lure colors in dark conditions and natural colors in clear water. In hard to see conditions make it as easy as possible for the fish to locate the bait. Size, sound, color all can make a difference. Lure color should contrast the background color.

Posts: 390 | I personally think that contrast is helpful on topwater. Almost all of my wtd topwaters have a contrasting color belly. for example orange belly black body.

Posts: 1100 | I don't really think it makes a difference, and with that being said i wonder why i have 3-5 different colors of all the topwater i have.
