Posts: 3926 | Ok, this season I've been blessed with a number of visits from the likes of EssoxManiac, FishOn, Pappa Joe and MuskyE. I took them all to my little Lake X and Y, we had a great time, and all agreed it is a good idea to plan some sort of fall outing. I don't want anyone else to feel excluded, so I'll just post an open invitational deal here and let's see who is interested. Location - First, you need to know that Lake X and Y are located about 30 minutes from Iron Mountain, MI, and Iron Mountain is on the MI-WI border 100 miles north of Green Bay. Boat Size Limitations - Lake X and Y are both small lakes, 150 and 200 acres respectively. Lake X is so full of timber that a boat over 16' is strongly discouraged; you need a small, light, nimble boat to dance through the timber on Lake X. Lake Y has less timber than X, but you must have a sturdy 4WD truck to deal with the "scarey steep" access. There is a third lake, Lake Z, that I've not fished yet, but I suspect it has a few muskies, too, and most local folks just don't know it. Lake Z has an improved access and is abouut 300 acres. You'll be using your electric motor almost all the time when fishing. Canoes can work well on these sheltered waters. Accomodations/Camping - there is no development on the lakes, no houses or cabins or anything. Very rustic and senic. The state owns the lakes and land, and we're going to camp at the lakes. There are no regular campsites, no water or electric or anything like that. There are a couple clearings off the gravel road that folks use to park small campers or set tents. We'll use one of those clearings as a group campsite. We are about 40 minutes from town and about 10 minutes from a "full service tavern" where we can get ice, basic food, gas, etc. Dates - Friday, October 2 thru Sunday, October 4. Folks are welcome to roll in early in the week or stay longer - all up to you. I'll probably set up on Thursday afternoon. Let's see, hmmmmm, what else should I say? You folks (Joe, Lynn, Al, Eric) who have fished these waters, do you have any comments? Waddya think?

Posts: 2754 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Ranger- Definitely a pretty setting and some fun muskie fishing. It was a great way to start my 2003 season with a 39.5 from lake X and a 41" from lake Y. The timber part is not understated. These are probably some of the largest muskie/fish cribs 'I've ever seen. I'm going to see if I can finagle it! After all it is work related. Should be a great time. Maybe I can borrow a little boat! LOL ;-) Al Warner
