Made a Couple Bou-Ancy Bucktails for a upcoming trip. Tinsel/Bucktail combo. The Bucktail hair really seems to control the tinsel, and conform Nicely covering the wood body underneath during retrieve.... YET, very good pulsation from the tinsel. No Problem keeping this Puppy up Top!!!

Well, they say the first purpose of any musky lure is to catch a fisherman and those surely do that! But, I am guessing they look great in the water as well. I like the flash of tinsel but don't like the tangled mess it becomes on a bucktail. And hackle I am guessing also gives it not only a look but a slightly different movement in the water. Very clever.

Made up a half dozen keel weighted front & back bucktails/W/ junior BAT, I call Littl-Dynamite. Need-less to say, they Worked...…. Well...….Dynamite this week!!!

Work well on deep weedlines as well , cast out, let hit bottom, Jump start, slow roll back!

I have a Hagen's wire bending Apparatus for R bends and wrapping Wire.

BUT, not necessary as you can just bend a Nail, , the diameter of the size loop U want. Bend the nail at a 45 degree angle. Put nail in vise and pinch vise right at the bend, and simply make your Wrap with a vise grip around the nail.

So; This bucktail I built 3 years ago (which I Named "Little Dynamite"), has accounted for over 40 Skis, and over 20 pike. I debated whether to just build another...….or dress Skirting for the 3rd time? You can see the solid bead has Mushroomed under the Clevis, and the plastic bead under that also is mushroomed.

So, YES, I reskirted:) + built a backup :)…..That Wire has got to be weak:(

Poured up a Batch of Swimmerhead Spinnerbait Heads. These work great W/ Tandem blades Trolled early in Spring, And a Go To Spinnerbait when the Lights go out:).

Tandem Blades Keep this bait Riding high at slow speeds. A go to bait for Night fishin! Single hook or Leverage free treble Model. Plenty of room to tie Dressing.

I assume your 3-4 joints? How did you go about making it so it doesn't foul on itself. Almost all my angry dragons are terrible with this, tried different casting form,tried stopping the bait in flight, doesn't matter. Electric trape ended up being the solution, but doesn't last long, thinking I'm gunna try a few layers of liquid rubber next.

Jay, this is Not an angry dragon.

3 joints. Really 2 joints. Trailer I guess makes 3. Shrink tube works fine. Just controlling your cast, a bit heavier on thumb keeps joints from swinging . Forgot to plop ruler down. This mud Hen extends 14”. Plenty big/ long enough for me.

Lol I'm aware it's not an angry dragon. Similar body construction though, so I was just curious how you went about your connecting joints; if you were shrink wrapping em, directly tieing the wires to each for a less flex, or something different. Dragons do just classic wire loops joined by a split ring and split ring hook hanger, which is fine, but all that flexibility leads to fouling.

Jay; I think the rubber tail, treble, and a small bell sinker split ringed helps keep back end heavier, thus keeping the back end traveling first. Angry dragon a bit front heavy contributing to swinging/ fouling.

I haven’t had too many issues with the dragon. Though, I add a BAT trailer which offers weight again in back!

Wow, JD, that is like asking a grandpa like me which grandkid he likes best! Like the way you have blended the hair and tinsel. Bet they look great in the water. The wood body, is the broad or narrow end forward? I assume the narrow end.

Jay, it’s pretty much where you place your rod tip.+ speed plays a factor. Lots of variables. You can still maintain lure depth just under surface with very low speeds.

I trolled spinnerbaits a lot in the past, but really there where times, I needed them to run higher, at slower speeds. These bouancy bucks have been money $$ the past several years. Where I put rod in the water, is pretty much where baits run in the water column! Actually, if you let out more line, the baits rise up even shallower! It’s really an advantage, because you can spread baits out at different line lengths, to keep Sonics spread out from confusing fish!

As I stated in the past, the hair controls the tinsel from a lot of tangles and tinsel knotting up, and acts as a trailer that fish seem to focus on and grab!

In contrast to this, the 5,6, and 8 ounce spinnerbaits I build, allow one to troll quick speeds either over deep weeds, or to deep depths, slowing down and reaching depths 10-20 feet down. Fish don’t see too many spinners reaching 15-20’ down!

That idea of shallow running at slow speeds is intriguing. I don't troll a lot but do troll going done the river between the lake I live on and the next lake in the chain. Have got fish on Jake baits, believers, all run no more than 10' back to keep them shallow enough not to foul in the river. I think a bucktail running just under the surface would be very effective running a little to the side out along the weed edge.
