Posts: 492 Location: Lindenhurst, Illinois | I was going through all my lures the other day and noticed I am heavy on Gliders, I've got Magic Makers, Phantoms, Reef Hawgs, Jerkos, Squirko's, Dilley's, Burts. I don't have many Suicks or other types of "up/Down" jerk baits. Two questions: 1) What do I need to add other than glider type JB's. 2) When fishing Gliders and you are raising fish with no takers have you had luck switching to another type of glider or do you go to something completely difference like a bucktail or a crank?

Posts: 4266 | It all depends on the mood or aggresiveness of the fish. I'm more apt to let a fish alone unless it displays suicidal tendencies and then come back later with a different lure or from a different angle or at a different speed or all three. If the fish is hot, I'll come back every hour or so. Some fish will come from the same area time after time at a high rate of speed and never strike, just to pee me off. Those are the kind of fish that I'll come back at several times with different approaches, usually speeding things up in the process, like bulging a bucktail or ripping a shallow crank as fast as I can. Every fish is different. All you can do is keeo working them until they eat or disappear. For jerk baits....BUY BUY BUY!!!! Try 'em all if you have to. You'll find some others that you like. Sometimes that up/down is what they want instead of that side to side. Try Sandcats, Bobbie Baits or Smittys. Beav

Location: Illinois-Indiana | Dave, When I'm moving fish on jerks and they won't commit and just follow I'll burn bucktails and this will usually get them to go. You have to crank them fast and hard, the fish don't have time to think, they just smack it.

Posts: 389 Location: Presque Isle Wisconsin | One jerkbait I would highly reccomend adding to your arsenal of up and down type lures is the Widowmaker.the profile is similar to a suick (metal tail etc ). The action is a combo of a good working suick and a bobby bait with some added belly roll. Each lure is consistent in performance unlike the aforementioned ). The bait is avavilable in holo-foil colors and the walleye patern withe gold holo-foil has been red hot for me this year. I have no connection and do not represent their baits. Secondly, concerning gliders and follows I would reccomend changing the tempo several times during the retreive and adding a sharp ,fast 2'pull several times during the retrieve. Most drop belly type gliders will do a nice shake and bake by doing this and you can feel the lure complete the move. It triggers fish just following the slower , normal, walk the dog type retrieve. Allow the lure to pause after the fast pull and then resume the slower retrieve until the next pull.

Posts: 332 Location: Neenah, WI | I am also a big glider fan and own quite a few of them. Yes I have had days on the water that all they do is look. Suicks and Bobbies are both great jerkbaits to add to your aresenal. But if that fish is following aggressively there is probably not a better bait out there to throw back than a BULLDAWG.
