Posts: 3 Location: Rowan Lake, Ontario, Canada | Early last week the surface water temps peaked up to 76 and with the more stable weather have slightly cooled to 72. Water levels remain high after the repeated rains we received in July. The late spring and cool water temps prevented a lot of weed growth out on the west end of the lake while Brooks Bay and the east end have really good weed growth this summer. Water clarity is excellent with a slight algae bloom going on in a few bays. The fish have been active and related to shallow weeds and rocks. Many fish are being pulled out of 2-3' of water. Last week not many lazy follows were happening. The fish have been aggressive and eating baits. Bigger fish are showing up and that's a great sign! Double 8's, Stump Hawg's and swim baits have been the effective lures. Our number of muskie fisherman and women are now increasing and we have a pretty much a full camp of devoted muskie hunters through mid Sept. Bill Sherck TV host of Due North Outdoors and MN Bound was in camp last week filming a unique fishing trip of two Fathers and their sons chasing muskies on Rowan Lake. This group had great success catching and releasing 11 muskies. We are also experiencing a smallmouth bass revolution here on Rowan. Our clients are coming in for dinner after having 75 - 150 fish days. It's incredible fishing for smallies right now. The few groups looking to do a shore lunch are still catching lake trout when needed. | Kris, What a great trip and a big thanks to everyone at the lodge for making it memorable. Here are a few bass pics. Everywhere we were casting for muskies, the bass fishing was incredible. The boys kept a bass rod close by and any time they wanted a short break from casting muskies that had no problem catching bass! Bill says the show will air this spring (March) on Due North Outdoors and MN Bound TV.
