The free spool button on my 400D quit working. It still reels line in and I can pull drag out but the free spool button won't work. I'm not real good working with small parts but I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone might know the issue and know if it might be an easy fix before I send it in. Thanks

Did you take it apart recently?

In other words when you depress the thumb bar, it does not disengage the spool? Does anything happen - it won't "click" or stay down or? Where are you located? I am south of the cities about 30-40 minutes and can usually turn these things around pretty quickly. fish4musky may have a point - if you or someone has had it apart and it quit working right after that, then pretty sure it simply did not get put back in place properly, because the thumb bar/spool prong setup on a D is one of the more positive and foolproof I've seen. PM me if you'd like to discuss

Thanks for the info. I did not take it apart recently. I am too worried I'd screw something up reassembling a reel so I always send them to Dave's. The thumb button does click and stays down but just won't disengage the reel. Propster, I think Dave is a few weeks out because I just got a Tranx fixed. Shoot me a PM if you can do it quicker and I can mail it to you.

I assume this is a Shimano reel.  If so, I have had GREAT success with the factory reel repair service through Shimano.  Rapid turn around and the reels purr like new.

PM sent, I'll take care of it for you as soon as I'm back from LOTW.
