| Last night my Terrova started chirping at me while going at any speed over 3. The chirping turned into a squealing after a bit and would only cease under speed 3. Then if stopped after 15-20 minutes. It was annoying as heck. I've heard the chirping a few times before but it usually went away quickly.
Any ideas what this might be? |

| I assume it is coming from the motor housing? Could be the bearings in the lower unit.

| Called a service center here in town, he said it sounds like it could be bearings or a bent armature or something like that. When I was hearing the noise I was thinking bearings as well. Taking it in tomorrow. |

Location: tHe LaKe Of PrIoR, mN | mine did that and i had a seal go bad water got inside, so I replaced the front and rear seals, bearing and brushes easy to fix! |

| I just replaced most of the lower unit parts on a terrova. It is not terribly hard but it is time consuming and easier to assemble with two people. |

| Just figured it out. It is not that difficult but I am a fairly mechanical person.
Getting the shaft seals out was a pain in the rear and I never did figure out an easier way than hammering them out with a punch and screwdriver. Replaced the brush plate and running the wires can be tricky. Would maybe remove the shaft if I did it again. Armature was easy by pulling it out the front and having a second person hold the brushes out with fishing line around them while reinstalling. I am sure there are easier ways to do some of this but I couldn't figure them out lol.
Not trying to scare you but it is tedious and time consuming.

| like sporstman i did it myself too, by the way no bearings at the prop end its a bushing pressed in tail housing and costs less to change housing than bushing and comes with bushing and seal on the housing...my problem was some vibration causing a humm that even my partner heard or felt in the back of the boat at lower speed . the tech where i bought parts told me very frequent problem ! |

Location: tHe LaKe Of PrIoR, mN | I did it myself I forgot I replaced the tail housing also when you get the springs and brushes ready I used a small zip tie to hold them for me and cut the zip ties once the rotor was back in far enough... When I did it I located a full parts breakdown of the lower unit online

| I took it in at noon today, got a call at 3 that it was done. Said water was getting in so he put new seals on and replaced damaged parts. $90. Can't complain about that! |
