Posts: 152 | Hey everyone, I have a Minnkota Powerdrive V2 US2/70lbs that currently is not working. It worked perfectly fine the last time I was out last Sunday. This past Friday evening I drove to the lake (through pretty heavy rain at times). When I got there, trolling motor was not working. Checked batteries, connections, etc. Tore stuff apart on Saturday morning, connections are fine, batteries are fine, etc. Tried another buddy's foot pedal...same thing...nothing. I then went and got a new control board (about $110) and replaced that. Afterwards, now the motor turns left/right, but the prop on the trolling motor does not spin at all? Rechecked another buddy's pedal, still didn't work. I then opened the top of the trolling motor head cover, bypassed the power cables that go to the control panel and hooked it up to a jump pack and the propeller spins fine. So..at this point I am thoroughly confused without any ideas. Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated. Headed to the Chippewa Flowage early Wednesday morning and like most I would rather repair this if possible than buy a new one. Doesn't look like many used ones are on here or craigslist.

Posts: 49 | I dont know if this is the problem but i had power issues with mine once and it was the breaker that I didn't know existed because it was in a different compartment of my boat, i thought it was a broken wire because other wires worked but found out that all i had to do was change a couple dollar circuit breaker and like magic it worked..... Just a thought because you said bypassing the power cables gave you power

Posts: 706 Location: Richland Center, WI. | I have the same motor. Motor would not spin but would turn left and right. Could hear a click in the relay on the control panel but still no spin. Took it to Dorn Hardware in Madison. Tuesdays and Thursdays they have guys there. Fixed mine quickly. The prop shaft seal was messed up and allowed water to enter the motor, shutting it down. New brushes and prop shaft seal and it is back in service. Now if I can get my motor on the boat to start. It is at the shop also. I am heading up to the Chip on Saturday. Where you staying, I may need a ride! ![]()

Posts: 152 | It is not the TM batteries..checked those. Also, I have restored my boat/wiring before...no circuit breakers, but good idea. I was already leaning on taking it into Dorn's Tuesday morning. Does anyone know how quick their turnaround normally is? I tried to get an "appointment" on Saturday morning when I called, but the guys didn't have access to their shop or calendar. Just don't want to pay them a couple hundred bucks in labor and parts when I could spend a couple hundred more and have a new motor. Muskyhunter63...we are staying at Deerfoot, but leaving Saturday. Not a bad place.

Posts: 706 Location: Richland Center, WI. | I took my trolling motor to Dorn's on Friday. I was in Madison the following Tuesday morning. I did not stop to check on my trolling motor as I thought that it would not be done. Got home and had a message that the motor was done! The motors get worked on first come, first served. I believe there are two guys working on the motors. Can't hurt to take your motor in tomorrow and explain what is going on. I called and they told me what to expect. They were fast and knew what to do. Keep us posted on how you do as I will be up the day you leave. Good luck with the motor and the fish! Edited by muskyhunter63 6/13/2016 1:30 PM

Posts: 1168 | That sounds like bad seals. Those are very easy to replace yourself as long as you have a bit of patience. Resetting the brushes can get frustrating the first time you do it if they keep popping off of the spring. The other trick is that for the seal on the shaft you need to be careful not to damage it when putting it in. If you don't have a press find the right sized socked and lightly tap it into place. It's pretty clear when it's set in properly but you don't want to get it wedged in their on an angle. I carry an extra set of seals in my boat because you never know when those things will crap out. From the time I start taking it apart until the time they are all set back in place it takes about 10 minutes.

Posts: 548 Location: MN | I'd have to look it up but if you have a certain broken wire in the coiled cable your motor could act like that. There is a trouble shooting paper out there somewhere. Nick

Posts: 99 | There is a wealth of information in this manual. Not sure it will help in your case but might be worth a read. I am thinking I should print it out before the link goes away lol. http://www.nottsflyfishing.co.uk/pdf_docs/mkrepairs.pdf
