| I recently bought a 1998 Ranger 692VS powered by a 2011 Mercury 175HP Pro XS. The boat is well loaded with 3 batteries, terrova, 3 depthfinders, a dozen rods, tackle, full gas and 15hp pro kicker.
The boat came equipped with a 5 blade mercury small hub 22 pitch. With 2 guys and full load, it performs decent out of the hole. Mid range is good, top end 51 mph gps max at 5500RPM barely. My only real complaints are when I have a full livewell and or a third person, the boat is a dog out of the hole. Also, in nearly all loads, it wants to struggle to stay on plane at 19 mph and takes a lot of throttle adjustment to keep it on plane. A PIA in rough water. I have found a 19P high five large hub. I'm wondering if it would work better than that small hub I have and let the engine turn some more RPMs. Redline is 6000.
If anyone has a similar set up or idea on what this alternative prop would do, let me hear it. I really like the boat but think that one area of performance could use some help. Thanks. |

| I run the 21P rev4. I like best overall. It will help your on plane speed issue.
The three blades (tempest) are faster and good if you are not in big water as much. |

Location: Contrarian Island | I'd go 4 blade of some sort too.. call DaH Props down in Burlington WI he can custom make a prop for that boat/motor and you will love it... he made me a custom 4 blade Solas for my 690 and I love it... great out of hole, good top end and really bites.

| Well I got a Rev 4 to try. I put it on and the motor wanted to stall in the harbor when I would shift from f to r or vice versa. I though something may be in a bind, but I put the boat back on the trailer and it turned freely. I put the tempest back on and it would not repeat the stalling issue. Any ideas what would cause it? I used the same flotorque hub as the tempest. |

| Thanks. I'm using a 21 tempest and the Rev 4 is 19. I wouldn't think that is it. Motor also turned a 22 small hub Hi 5 and never had this happen. Strange. Am I safe to say if it isn't in a bind spinning it by hand on the trailer, there is no axial movement of the prop on the shaft, I'm not in danger of it being a problem of "rubbing" against the gear case? I cannot see where that is evident of taking place. |

| Are the vent holes plugged? You're going to need to use plugs with holes in them on that prop. I'd start out with medium holes. You can accomplish nearly the same thing by pulling two of the solid plugs out to test it.
Even with solid plugs, the motor should not stall at idle. You're holeshot will be horrible, but it should not stall.
is your current prop aluminum?

| Tried it again. Problem went away. No idea what caused it. The prop didn't perform overall like it did with the Tempest. I know it is contrary to popular thought, even what I expected. The holes were plugged solid. It held the boat on plane at low speeds like the 3 blade. It did not handle the boat quite like the Tempest and for the money, I'll stick with it most likely. |

| You will have to open up the vents in that prop to get decent performance from it. Other things also come into play, like motor height, trim, and weighting in the boat. In most cases, The Rev 4 outperforms the Tempest in all areas on a deep V glass boat, except top speed. On my 1890, top speed dropped about 2 -3 MPH, but overall performance was much better. |

Location: Contrarian Island | I'd give DAH Propellors a call and walk him thru it..this guy knows Props...be ready for him to talk your ear off for about 30 minutes...I ordered a custom Solas 4 blade for my 690 w 175 suzi 4 stroke and it is awesome... great hole shot, pushes the boat 51 w 2 guys and normal load..

Location: Nowheresville, MN | I'm with Shep. But disagree about the vent holes as a blanket statement. 200 HPDI with all vent holes plugged here.
I thought the 3 blade did not hold it on plane at slow speeds? I'm willing to bet the motor needs to come up. I'm almost wrapped up in the process of testing a DAH Rev4 19 against my current Yamaha 21M. When I first swapped them the Rev4 was awful. Long story short, my motor was too low and the Rev4 has so much grip that it 'performed' poorly. The 3 blade slipped enough that the boat hull/physics could overcome the motor being too low. At least that is my novice opinion. I put a jackplate on and raised the motor over an inch (3' prop to pad now) and now the Rev4 is a beast. I also have seen improved performance in my original Yammy prop too. |
