My question to you musky devotees is when it comes to sharp trebles. And many types of bait don’t come with them off the shelves or from the tackle shops.
Do you prefer to use the old file and sharpened the baits original trebles or to replace the baits original trebles with premium trebles like the Ultra Point from Mustad or hooks from say Gamakatsu?

Tight lines the season approaches,

I will replace the hooks with larger ones if needed and sharpen with a file. Use standard Mustad 3551s or Eagle Claws trebles.

If I did replace hooks with new premium ones, I would still sharpen them. That being said, I would sharpen what you have already. Ive never seen hooks that were sharp enough for my taste out of the box.

Always sharpen. Even "premium" hooks need to be sharpened, and tuned up through the season!

The only hooks i don't sharpen is Owner st36bc and Gamakatsu 13b, but they aren't big enough for most musky baits.

Everything else get a touch with a file.
