I've just started to hit the water hard again to post some reports of some use, so here it goes.

The lake temps range from the high 60's to low 70's, with a bit of stain due to the ecosystem starting to get into gear, and of course too many jet-skis...

The fish are just about to jump into high gear, but we need more than the two days of the stable warm weather and temps in the mid 70's to really get them moving. Percentages have been highest for me on the main lake with many fish relating to structure with solid weed growth. They haven't been on top of the new beds and active as you'd expect at this point, so hitting the breaklines has been key.

There has been a good topwate bite at sunset on Topraiders after a warm day, but that's been it for topwater. We lost a nice 40's Saturday, and had many other fish too the boat. Nothing in the mornings yet.

Scenario from yesterday:

Had a tough day overall. The fish weren’t where I expected them to be. I arrived at daybreak, and scored nothing on topwater. With the weather coming in, cloud cover, etc., the two days of warm weather wasn’t enough to get them moving and on top of the beds.

After throwing quite a few search baits on top of the weeds and working the breaklines, I just couldn’t move any fish. So I started downsizing, and went with a 6” Reef Hawg, and put my buddy on a Sledge. The activity zone was in about 6-8’ of water, so I started keying in on the windward side of structure with weedbeds, as the wind turned S-SE and began to blow a bit harder. I was positioning the boat on top the beds, casting out past the breakline. That was the key, as they were suspended. Working the breakline from the outside wasn’t moving fish.

I had two back to back, and we probably could have had a few more yesterday. I moved a couple more big fish within an hour, and my buddy had another knock his Sledge boatside. Felt like I had it dialed in, but had to go home and work. I guess we have to pay for our addictions somehow.

Here’s a pic of the better of the two in the 40’s, starting to carry some weight.

Good fishin',

Just a weekend update.

The summer peak is coming to an end. Did ok the last few days with the best fish going 42". If you're out this week focus on main lake structure weeds, and stick with it. Rubber skirted bucktails are starting to move fish well, and drop belly gliders may be turning more heads than others. The topwater bite seems to be slowin down from where it was last couple of weeks. During the day, crankin the deep edges of the grass on main lake structure will probably produce well through the weekend as the temps rise and the sun climbs high. Keeping it deep and tight on the broken edges will probably be the key to drawing them out of beds if the pressure gets heavy.

Good fishin', and have a great 4th of July!
