I have seen some pics of saltwater guys replace the standard white knobs with black ones...anybody have an idea which ones would fit the tranx handle?

I put the ljv handle on mine. It has a black knob. I did it because I didn't like how slippery the stock white knob is. I found the ljv knob to be just as slippery. It also knocked the reel out of balance a bit so I'm switching back to the stock handle/knob. I'm going to experiment with grip tape on the knob or possibly add some texture to it with some sand paper. Anyone have suggestions on tape to try?

I know some guys put the saltist handle on them but I believe you have to machine the handle to get it to fit? Bnelson or pike master would know.

BNelson pointed me towards these handles for a tranx. I put one on my HG, and then decided after making a few casts to buy another one for my PG. The handle is a about 1" longer and makes what I believe to be a big difference. I ordered the black round knob for the hg and the blue/silver one for my pg (thought it would look good on the LT rod).

Adubs or bnelson, do the black knobs on these handles have better grip than the stock white knobs?

I wont get the blue/silver until Friday. My reason for going with the black is it reminded me of the power handle on my NACL's and I like them for comfort and they aren't as cold in the fall to hold onto. I figured I'll be throwing mostly big rubber in the fall (using my shock 'n awe Hulbert rod and hg for that) so I went with the black knob. For my big nasty/PG setup I figured that will be used primarily in warmer conditions and liked the look of blue/silver knob better. If I don't like the feel of it I'll send it back and get the black one for the PG as well. I'll post an update once I get it Friday.

edit: just noticed your question was about comparing grip on the standard handle vs black one. I prefer the round knob and material better on the custom handle. I didn't have a problem grip wise with the stock handle but I would say it is better on the black one.

I put the NACL power handle on my HG. Needed to drill/tap a new hole for the little screw. Was totally worth it. I had a Dave's Custom TE handle that I tried at first but the extra weight made an already cumbersome combo even more cumbersome. I suspect the new beast jigging handle would be nice as well.

I'm trying to find out what this handle knob is:

Not that it makes a difference but my OCD prevents me from getting past the griminess of the white knob after a few uses when it turns filthy looking ha

It's the knob from a Shimano Stella 20K (20000)

It looks like the entire arm/knob assembly from a Talica BFC may work as well (just going by pictures).

...and here ya go, part #RD15847 - $22.94:

Not sure the lengths of these other handles but the power handles I ordered are 4" long compared to 3 1/4" for the standard handle. Put the blue/silver one on my PG today and it's amazing how effortless it is to real big blades in with it. Well worth the money!

Howdy,

I called Shimano last year and was told by one of their technicians that the BLACK handle knob from the TALICA will fit the Tranx and that he actually swapped them out on his reel. I purchased 8 of the knobs but sold my collection of Tranx before using them.

Take care,

Ruddiger

Howdy,

Well, with the help of another member I can now confirm with 100% certainty that the BLACK Talica knobs I purchased from Shimano will fit the Tranx perfectly.

Take care,

Ruddiger
