So I'm considering connecting my helix 9 at the helm to my bow 859 unit and just have a couple questions. I understand I cannot share mapping. If I mark a waypoint on one unit, will it automatically appear on the other and stay there or do I need to save it somehow? Also would it be possible to see the transducer connected to the us2 from my terrova on my helix 9? This would be useful if I want to run the boat from the back deck. Thanks for any help.

Dan,

I have an 588, 998 and Ipilot link all connected thru an ethernet hub and if I remember correctly, they do share waypoints. Pretty sure they don't share maps or transducers. If you have ipilot link, you will need to have a lakemaster map chip in at least one of head units to control (follow contour, track, etc) the terrova from that unit. If you have a map chip in both, I believe you then can control from either.

I really like the fact that when I'm using autopilot, an arrow is displayed on the map showing which way the trolling motor is pointed.

You might want to try asking this question on the humminbird site or give them a call just in case I've given you some bad info. They have always been real good about answering any questions I've had in the past.

I have a 859 and 899si connected with an Ethernet cable.
You can share waypoints but they r not automatically saved on the other unit. A waypoint from the other unit has a green ring around it and only shows if both units are on. If u want it saved in both then u have to share or save using an SD card.
U can also share transducers too but you cannot see an SI/DI image on a non SI/DI unit.

With latest software you should be able to see DI/SI on another unit, even if they are not equipped with it.

Awesome! I plan on having both units running at the same time. Another stupid question- will the waypoints currently saved on each unit be visible on both or only the points saved after they are linked together?

Current waypoints will be visible if you have it turned on in the settings. Both units have to be on to see the waypoints from each other.

Dan,

Check this out: http://www.humminbird.com/uploadedFiles/Content/Category/Support/FA...

According to this, "A unit can only receive Sonar information over the Ethernet that it is capable of using
without Ethernet. By this I mean that for a unit to receive Side Imaging Sonar
information over the Ethernet it must be a side imaging unit."

See page 13 and 14 for explanation.

Thanks guys! I'm not so concerned about seeing SI on both units, I just wanted to make sure the stuff I just mapped on my helix will now be visible on the 859 if I'm fishing from the bow. Also I'd like to be able to run the boat from the back deck if I have guests fishing with me and being able to see the us2 from my helix would be great. Sounds like I can do both things I'm looking for.

kjgmh,

Unless I'm reading this wrong, the "new" info suggests that with my setup, 998 SI on console and 788 with US2 on trolling motor, that I could only share 2D sonar. Do you agree?

Correct, it has to be a 8x9, 9x9, 11x9 or Helix 9,10,12. If you model ends in an 8, it won't work.

Ok guys so I have now connected my two units via a 20' Ethernet cable and two dongle adapters. My bow 859 will run for 30 seconds or so and then it reboots and continues to start up/shut down continuously if both my helix 9 and it are on. It functions just fine if the helix is powered off but as soon as they are both on the 859 goes into this loop. The screen also flashes green quick before it reboots. The Helix appears to run just fine? Thoughts? Obviously this problem defeats the purpose of linking them together

Also the unit stays on and functions just fine if I unplug the Ethernet

That is a weird one. Does the 859 have the most recent software installed? If it does you will have to call HB.
