I am taking the family on a vacation down to Destin Florida at the end of May and want to take my boys out fishing for 1/2 a day. They are 9 and 6 and this will be there first experience ocean fishing. They both do well and love freshwater fishing so I am assuming they will love this as well. Does anyone have any tips for me? Any suggestions on who to book with? I am looking for a fun day on the water with plenty of action to keep the boys excited and not break the bank. I am open to all suggestions and recommendations…..thank you all in advance!

We went out the last couple of years with Captain Brant Peacher out of Pensacola. He has a center console boat big enough for about 4 or 5 fishermen. We caught a lot of king and spanish mackerel. And my son went out with him once and caught a bunch of the big redfish.
Pensacola is about 45 minutes away from Destin. Brant has a web site and you can find it by googling Brant Peacher or Angler Up fishing. If you think about going out on a fishing trip with him, I would call him first and see if he will be able to put you and your sons on some fish. He has always been straight up and honest with us. Good Luck!

Do a full day! It is over before even an impatient 6 year old could imagine. Destin is/was a great Cobia area 18 years ago at that time of year. Check the web, and call bait shops. There are salt water forums to turn you in the right direction. I miss the squeaky sand!

Try Hog Wild offshore charters. Ronnie Hogue is an awesome captain and can find big fish when others are struggling. He is also located in Pensacola at "The Beach Marina. (850-934-1743)
He has a 43' custom Torres Twin Diesel Sportfish boat. Air conditioned cabin, full facilities, and a large casting/fishing deck on the rear.
6 of us booked with hem several times for an overnight trip. 2 days of "catching". Counting sharks and others we didn't keep, we boated over 1000lbs of fish. After cleaning all 6 of us went home with 90 - 100 lbs of grouper, red snapper, amber jacks, trigger fish, and other fish.

Kids would have a good time on a big party boat, which are much cheaper than some of the other options. Take dramamine, especially if you haven't spent much time off shore. There's not a lot of fishing time on the 1/2 day trips. I always prefer the full day trip and went on many full day trips when I was your kids' age.

Most boats will give you squid, which will catch all kinds of smaller fish and will keep the kids happy. You can pick up some frozen cut bait at the bait shop and take it with you to catch more interesting things.

Spring time on the Panhandle can be windy. Try and pick a day when the seas aren't too wild if possible. Lots of stuff will be running by May. If you go out on a good day, you can catch a lot of fish.

Destin and ft Walton has been our fishing vacation for 20yrs We always go in October but the last inshore charter we had was guy named chuck kemper of lucky chicly charters. We had 3 adults and a 5yr old. He had a 21' center console boat knows the onshore waters really well great family guy and caught us bunch of fish. As a party boat it may not be the prettiest but we always loved the sweet Jody have been on it 10 times or more always bring giant stringer home Either way you will catch fish but we really liked chuck kemper. He located in Navarre which is 15 min or so away from destin
