Posts: 173 Location: Minnesota | My Dad and I are going on a camping trip this summe to lake of the woods. I've never been on a camping trip this length. What would you recommend bringing as far as food and equipment? We will have power outlets

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | Mind if I ask where you will be camping that you'll have power? Back to your question, we eat fish every day. When in Rome .... You don't get to eat fish that fresh very often so we take advantage. That's our one big meal of the day - fish, potatoes or rice or soup or pasta for the side. We take a break from muskie casting for an hour, go find a hump, catch 3-5 walleyes and pull onto a sandy beach and do it up good. Breakfast is fruit bars and granola bars in the boat at 5-6 am. Snacks in the boat during the day are apples, trail mix, venison sticks, Gatorade. Dinner is back in the tent at 10 pm with salami, cheese, and crackers or ham, turkey and cheese tortilla wraps, and maybe a couple fingers of Canadian whiskey. As you can see we're there for the fishing and not gourmet eating, except for the shore lunch which with the fresh air and fresh walleye I'll put up against any restaurant meal.

Posts: 897 | Big breakfast, bacon eggs toast, all can me made easily on a two burner Coleman stove with a skillet and toaster accessory. Basic sandwiches/chips/jerky for lunches. Tinfoil meals for dinners on a grate over the fire if you're getting back at. Reasonable hour...or precook a bunch of meals that can be warmed up in a pot quickly. You can cook whatever you want camping with the right preparation and planning. Biggest thing in my eyes is ice preservation unless you can go get more. Pack your coolers well and only open them when necessary. That, and boat space. Otherwise you can be as creative or simple as you want with camping food. A good waterproof tent is a must. Learn how to properly set up and use an extra tarp under it. Camp chairs. Firestarter logs are nice after a long day in the water. A hatchet. Rope/parachute cord. Biodegradable dish soap. I could go on but you get the idea. Edited by whynot 3/14/2016 8:58 PM

Posts: 16632 Location: The desert | Like prop said....eat fish everyday! If you've got power outlets, get a fry daddy. Way easier than putzing with a Coleman stove. But stoves work if you don't have a fryer. Second the tarp, but would add one over the top if you're able.
