I have been debating on making a lipless type rattlebait. I have done searches and can't seem to find the exact answers I am looking for. So I have a few questions.

I want the lure to float but when I retrieve it I want it to dive down n wobble like a lipless rattlebait.
What would be the best woods to achieve this?
What about Sealant?
Where to get rattles loud enough to put in the wood?

There is prolly more I'm missing. All help will be greatly appreciated!

I have one drawn up on paper that i haven't started yet. Im gonna use cedar as its pretty buoyant. I'll be sealing it with etex thinned with denatured alcohol. For a rattle i was going to drill out a larger hole behind where the eyes would go and use a larger ball bearing, it'll have more off a clack than a rattle. Not sure if this will work but this is what i have planned.

Here is a good website with many lure plans. If you look under jerbaits and hybrid there is one called The Divani VG II. He says the action is similar to the Bill Lewis supertrap. This will give you a good reference for the center of gravity.

I would also use cedar. I was using devcon 2 ton epoxy thinned with denatured alcohol. I have gone back to etex thinned with denatured alcohol. I use 2 or three coats. Hang the lure in a warm location and keep the solution cold. You can apply several coats with the same batch.

Get some of the fasten on rattles used with spinner baits and snip the fastners off and clean the edges with a dremel or a file . Drill your hole and epoxy them in. BB's used with rifle shells also work.
