Posts: 246 Location: Jamestown, Pa. | I was just emailed a picture and stats, by a friend, of a huge musky taken by a fellow while walleye fishing with a 1/3 once tube jig. The big girl was 57 1/2 with a 32 girth, approx. weight around 65 to 70 pounds? Good news is she was released in good shape to bite again. How do you get pictures on here?

Posts: 2089 | I got that e-mail with pics last week.Awesome fish.I guess it was caught by a guy bass fishing in Eastern Ontario.Pumpkin tube.My brother brought up a good point. The guy probably was sight fishing in the clear water and came upon the fish.Did he cast to it intentionally even though the season was closed?Would you?A great catch no doubt but there's some food for thought.Ethics in fishing ?You betcha!!!A real moral dilemma.Man I need to get on the water!!! Posts: 466 Location: Pittsburgh, PA | i dont know about those measurements. according to the thing on the MF home page that calculates weight, that fish weighs just over 73 lbs. thats more than the world record right?

Posts: 80 Location: IL | I have seen these pics before.. This is the exact resean why formulas arnt worth squat. Look at how the belly is formed. It looks almost like a defect.. The girth measurement will throw the esimated weight WAY off. This fish might be killed for thought of world record potential..

| No way is that fish is as big as mine. I'm guessing she's been measured wrong. She's lucky to be over #40. | |||

Posts: 1430 Location: Eastern Ontario | Sorry to tell you Louie but your estimate is way off as always. I've seen those pictures and have caught many fish over 40 Lbs and that fish is closer to 60 lbs then 40 lbs or I would guess at least 55 lbs. Even if the measurements are a bit off or say it was 55 X 30 that would make it over 60lbs. One hell of a fish and I am going to get me one just like that next fall and weight it for you.

Richard, I hope you do catch the beast this year ( on one of my colors of course ) In any case, should I ever be blessed with a catch like that she will go back in after the masurements and picture so I can get a replica and I would smile forever.

| That is a great fish, however, I have to agree with Matt here. It is not a well proportioned fish. The huge girth is in one very obvious spot. It looks like a guy with skinny arms, skinny legs and narrow shoulders, BUT, a huge potbelly. (Kinda like me). The formula (ANY formula) wouldn't work on this fish at all. It would be grossly over-estimated. It is SOOO far out of a cylinder shape that it just won't be accurate. Scott | |||
