Posts: 20248 Location: oswego, il | Where does this bait fit into my arsenal, where would I use it? I used to buy baits just to try them. Not so much anymore. What does this new bait do better than something I already have? I am always looking for something even more erratic , something that fits a need, shows me.a need or is just a better mouse trap.

Location: Eastern Ontario | When i started Muskie Fishing there were very few muskie lures available in the Canadian boonies so I used what I could get, Suicks, Smittys, Musky Hawks, Swim Wizz, Spinners now called bucktails. Selection was so limited I took whatever colour was available and caught lots of fish. Today I probably have over 600 lures but I tell myself that most came off raffle tables (probably not true )85 of which are going to a used tackle sale next month. I don't get too hung up on colour and figure if I can see it so can a muskie but I do like firetiger. It's kinda hot and perchy at the same time. To me location is most important and hope you have the timing right. Today I spend more time trolling big water looking for a monster and like a solid wood lure that's wired through for colour I've settled on brown perch and have seen it work under all conditions. A good lure catches fish long after the paint job is destroyed or gone. When I am casting my old suicks and spinnerbaits still catch fish and are not too hard on the body. PS: you can buy 4 seemingly identical lures and one of them will have something a little different that lites up the fish guard that lure with your life. If colour mattered that much the more I had would only increase the odds of me having the wrong one on. If I was selling you lures I would tell you that you needed every bait in 27 different colours. I do like lures to have vertical bars.

HH, I had a spinnerbait that I gave to my young sons when they were growing up and pike fishing. That one particular bait outdid all other baits in their boxes. Not that it was used more often but it made a noticeable diff. when they used it. It had a sort od "thump" that you could even feel on lightline pike spinning rods. It snapped off on one of my casts a year or two later...and we still talk about that! "Troy, that really good bait you got that's working well..don't let dad cast it...!"

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | I voted for effectiveness. It's gotta work, right? Lots of other considerations like price, durability, and does it fit my style of fishing, but bottom line if a bait doesn't catch fish, it isn't worth having. With that said, how many baits out there DON'T catch fish? Probably just the ones that don't get used for the most part?

Posts: 1039 | I look for baits that have similar qualities to other baits that I've used that have worked well. Action, color scheme, bouyancy...etc.

It's a sickness I tell you, and with about 600 lures I'm terminal

It's a sickness I tell you, and with about 600 lures I'm terminal Because some of those baits are no longer made, or made differently. So when you see a new bait that is very similar to an old legend that is no longer made, you jump on that bait.

Posts: 141 | Action is effectiveness, without a decent action a bait has zero effect. Color and looks come way behind action because again without action a bait has nothing....just sayin
