My x65 seems to be fond of losing bottom and freaking out displaying a depth of 800 feet stuff like that. Was fishing with another recently and his x85 was doing the same thing. Both of us had transducer on the troller if that makes any difference.

What is the deal? Why does it freak? Any one else with similar experiences? Any clue how to correct this?

Thanks,
Jon

X65 on my trolling motor looses bottom all the time, and it is not consistent with the motor being turned on/off.

Seems to be any time I'm over 15 feet in depth...the picture goes blank and the depth still records the number in the upper left corner of the screen.

I like the 65 for a simple unit on the bow because it also has a flasher screen to it. I hate to get rid of mine but if you want two of them I will cut you a heck of a deal...:)

I have an X-65 on the dash and an X-75 on the bow/trolling motor (same units, just different years) and finally admit that the problem is interference between the two units. My solution is to turn one of them off when out over deep water (20+ feet) and things are fine. Pain in the rear... but it works.

Good luck with your troubleshooting. I sure hope it ain't an electrical problem like Joe Junion had. He found a solution... but it took awhile. Maybe he will post what he learned here too.

I was the lucky SOB that was fishing with Jon and my X-85 does it a lot. And not over deep water but all depths....I am starting to think the unit is going bad. I will shut the back one off next time out and see what I get. But this is acting different that what I have seen for interference in the past.

My X 65 mounted to my minn kota up front doesn't seem to like anything shallower than 10 ft when it's on Auto...if I have it off of Auto I can get it to work....

I also had the same problems with my X-65 which was a 2000 model. By the fall of 2000 I was losing bottom in about 20 feet of water. That winter I sent the unit back to the company and they replaced it with a new one. By the fall of 2001 the same problem was occuring so I replaced the transducer and took finally took care of the problem. For 2003 I ended up replacing the X-65 with a new Lowrance X-97 that retails for about $400.00, have used this unit many times the spring and have not had any problems with interferance of anything. Just thought I would add my input.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. I'll try some of the ideas here and see if it helps. Mine seems to be especially touchy in real shallow water. Deeper stuff seems to be OK.

Cory, nice spinning rod holders.

I had similar problems last year with my X91's. I switched the dash unit with the bow mount, and still had the same problem. It ended up being a bad tranducer for my bow mounted unit. Lowrance sent me out a new transducer, and it's it been fine since.

The problem I have is when I turn on my trolling motor I get interferance with the front locator. It is on a seperate battery. I found (with the recommendation from SWorrall) that if I put a good car radio noise filter on the locator power cord, the locator worked better, but still not as good as when the motor was off.

I have a few more things to try. I am going to take apart the motor and tune it up a bit. I am an elecrtic motor mechanic by trade. Funny I didn't do this sooner. I also plan on getting an Eagle 320 for the front. Another thing is the noise filter got wet and shorted out so I plan on sealing up the next one I get.

I did research the problem with Minn Kota and Lowrance and all I got out of them was that the x70 locator I was using on the front has high power and it is a sensitive unit. Thus, more suseptable to the motor noise. Just goes to show you how real life experienced people like you can find on the internet are much more informative then people who just answer phones at the company.
