Just a thought..... Wouldn't promoting a lake and a resort possibly help out the local economy and in turn help out the fishery.

I suppose that depends on how you define "help". In addition to renting a few rooms and restaurant visits you might sell some extra gas and a few cases of beer but I wouldn't expect to see many musky fishermen going into the local businesses, e.g. the Candle Cottage in Cable, unless they brought their wives along.

Local fisherman probably don't think it helps them much at all.

These are the Musky guys who bring their Keystones into a bar supporting a swap meet, right?

These guys are more brandy old fashioned types and they don't frequent musky shows or swap meets. If you buy a round or two at the bar though, they might share some spots.

If your really lucky they might take you there in they're wood boat. Don't try casting your pounder or double ten with that pflueger reel. Just leave the pikie minnow on. Don't wear your buff or anything embroidered.

A guy wages a large gamble on making a career out of fishing and it surely comes with sacrifices, especially monetarily. Those boys create enough entertainment out of their production to keep everyone watching and talking, but that comes from the excitement of new adventures. We all know how much it costs to travel, what with lodging, gas, entertainment, food/drink, more lures we think we need, etc. Imagine paying for all of that, as well as television airtime and camera gear/maintenance.

So I figure, if there's a way to cut a cost, like free lodging in accordance with a new destination adventure to make a show out of, it's a no-brainer. What's a guy to do?

So was the bar he fished with the buoys one of HIS spots?

Probably his buoy's, I use buoy's on deeper structure to keep myself oriented and on the spot, that way I can fish and control the boat without staring at my electronics.

Have fun!

Just saw the latest Keyes episode entitled "Southwest MN muskies". Let's just say the MN part was correct but it wasn't SW. Ben let the general location slip as he was holding a nice fish for the camera. The most satisfying part of the show for me was that I put a clinic on that new water in 2013 when I caught 25 in a week to 47". New musky lakes are like girlfriends in a way. Someone has already been there done that!

"25 in a week to 47"" you got bump board pics to prove this claim?

I am very glad that they did not mention the lake name but I don't think it matters at this point since Ben is an actual guide. I would be shocked if he doesn't throw a few guided trips to that lake in the mix and then "there goes the neighborhood".

Be shocked Cfollow. I guide the same water I have always guided...actually less water these days...pretty much just Tonka and Leech...might do some fly stuff with another crew. I join the Keyes boys for a little fun and adventure! I'm not sure it always comes across, but I feel like KO promotes getting out there and exploring a little. Honestly, that's all we are...a handful of passionate musky rubes with cameras. Obvious bias aside, I think Mike does about as good a job as anyone walking the line.

Because people complain like crazy. About everything. All the time.

Ben, any chance you and the KO crew will get us a musky sized Mighty Bite anytime soon?

Okay, so I haven't seen this newest episode you speak of entitled Southwest MN Muskies yet. But is it possible that the staff at Keyes Outdoors reads these forums and maybe, just maybe they were fishing a west metro lake and mis-took that region for southwest minnesota.

Great show. I didn't pay attention to to the title but the fish and water color gave up the general area to me. During the episode one of them says north central Minnesota. How many people pay close attention to the depth finders(viewers that is) on these shows?

Maybe a little truth in advertizing would help......for those who can't find their nice try with either hand.....

Maybe its time for some of you to try exploring w/o blindly following the herd...learn something from the video besides the lake or the spot, I don't care what water, muskies are muskies. It's about technique's tactic's.

Have you ever caught a muskie on a squid?

Have fun!

To me, any of the TV shows have never given anything away that I didn't already know about or I just plain wouldn't fish there anyway. There aren't a ton of secrets out there these days, although I have a few that I'd be pretty bummed if people figured out. I doubt a show would ever go there and blow it up. And if Keyes knows about it, then there is no reason why anyone else can't figure it out and blow it up as well. Keyes show this year has been outstanding in my eyes. The quality of video and editing has been just awesome and I can't wait to watch it every week!

IMHO, Keyes show is by far the best fishing show I have ever seen. It is actually refreshing to me when he says they only saw two fish the whole day...just makes his show seem that much more realistic. I love Keyes' enthusiasm and each new adventure he and the guys take. Keep up the GREAT work, Ben.
