Posts: 307 | We've been to these a few times, but some in the group would like to see something different. Any recommendations? Looking to be in the same general area, and keep the price similar to what we've paid for 6 days fishing: <$1000 or so. Mainly muskies of course, but do want a little variety (pike, smallmouth, etc). Posts: 1039 Location: North St. Paul, MN | I agree with Brian, BUT, you're going to be hard pressed keeping it around a 1000 on Lac Seul. After, travel, food, gas, lodging, misc. you're going to be closer to 1500 to 2000. Plus, the only spots for muskies are Anderson's (where you have to fly-in, they won't let you boat in...we've asked multiple times to reduce cost), Lac Seul Outposts, Moosehorn, Lost Island (I think that's what it's called) -- All of those are going to put you well over your desired 1000. When I saw this yesterday I thought about responding Lac Seul, as it's an absolute fishing paradise (especially that Northeast section). If you want to treat yourself to excellent walleye fishing, great pike fishing, giant muskies (occasionally), and surprising smallies once you get into them I'd go there... Currently, my family heads to the west central end of the lake where there are not muskies. Great walleye fishing though, with better size (probably not better numbers) than the east end. We've paid, on average, for everything the last few years around $1,100/guy. Good luck in your search. If you have any questions about Lac Seul, don't hesitate to ask. "Musky Brian" up above is super knowledgeable about Ontario waters! Steve

As of Friday, the current exchange was $1.38 which is a pretty significant discount. I would expect the rate should peak at some point in January. If the place charges in US funds, then it doesn't matter.

Thousand Island area with a day or two at Bay of Quinte for some giant 'eyes. Stay at local motels and easy sub $1000. All charge in $CDN. Same for Ottawa river. Eastern Ont not well understood on this board. Edited by wall i 12/13/2015 1:40 PM

Posts: 580 | You've got some awfully good bodies of water listed there, but take a look at the Winnipeg River out of Minaki. Little Sand, Big Sand and Rough Rock. The area fishes a lot like LOTW for muskies (its part of the same watershed). Good walleyes, SM and pike as well. I think you can find a resort in that budget. Yup, thats a good body of water, Had an old timer tell me once that he had done the entire tour and said the biggest fish were in that system. I only went there once and was able to land a real pig of a fish. It's pretty tough to justify driving right by LOTW and adding on another hour/2 hours more to your trip though. Couple others not mentioned here... Pipestone, Rowan and Upper/Lower Manitou for Trout water options Stork Lake Chain/Long Legged where Bob M lost that one on tape that he claims was a possible world record ( either way it was real big..)
