Posts: 146 Location: Alsip, IL | I've kept a short journal for the last 4 seasons. Usually just a short paragraph about anything I find worth noting from the day. Date, any fish caught, location, temp, and lure, etc. Nothing fancy but it was nice to track my progress, and see what tactics consistently produce for me.

Posts: 1209 | Correct I try my best not to handle and measure fish that appear small to me and that's 38" about. I try not to take pictures of 46" fish if the net man will let me get away with it. There fun to catch and look at but unless it's >50 or a personal best of the first handful someone catches I just do my absolute best to help the fish. That's just me. I know cpr works.

Posts: 1000 | I've netted just about every fish ever since one ran a 7/0 treble through the back of my hand and had its way with me. It's just safer for me and the fish.

Posts: 1209 | I had a 7/0 hook through my hand and a finger. Gotta do what you gotta do. Cool pictures and story from the ER.

Posts: 20212 Location: oswego, il | Same here, net them all. I see my manhood every morning after I get up. Had a fish run a 5/0 into my finger on LSC last august. Could not imagine how that would have turned out had it not been in the net.

Posts: 470 | It's still new enough to us that I log all fish caught. We also have an aerial photo of our home lake, the kid's catches go on that pic with a color coded star. We make a big deal about it. I try to Photo them all too, especially if I'm out by myself. They all think I'm telling fish stories if I don't! LOL As far as record keeping goes, I drop an icon on the phone Navionics software and I write some brief data about the catch: TOD, Wind, Weather, Lure used, Depth, Etc. As we get more experienced with the lake, I probably won't bother as much. RandalB

Posts: 1828 | I'll count them until I start catching so many per season that it's hard to keep track. I don't see that happening any time soon.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | back in the day there were people who were so worried and jealous, needy or cocky (never really figured out which), they counted fish for me ... that was always fun. wonder if this generation has the dandies that ours had? i doubt it ...

Posts: 2024 | I doubt many from the younger generations know what a dandy, or dandie, is... I'm new to this (3 years), fish 2-3 trips a year, and remember them all, because there are less than 10. The lost ones are as haunting and the caught ones are memorable.

Good thing he was from Illinois and I fish Vermillion , Mille lacs , Cass ,Leech and some smaller lakes ...I put a fish icon on every musky caught in my gps, that's the extent of any log.

Posts: 75 | For me it's the memoiries build and chared with friends during the challenge catching the elusive musk, when we make a trip to Canada every other year, or hunting down northern pike at my home waters in the Netherlands. Every Big one has a story to it which are the real treasures. The stories one can tell says more to me about a fisher man then the numbers... Numbers without a context are not more than that. But i do make a waypoint of every Big one caught. Initial for plotting seasonal movement.. But is mostly used now for motivational purpose of my guests, now we enter dangerous water... Posts: 833 | I log my catches and keep track of many of the details surrounding the catch. Over 6 years I've learned a lot about what conditions produce best for me on the lakes I fish. Very smart thing to do in my opinion.
