Location: Glen Ellyn Il | when crossing waters from US to Canada side, but not landing in Canadian soil or anchoring in Canadian waters, do you have to call them to let them know I am crossing in to Canadian waters
I do have a passport and the phone number 1-888CANPASS

| Yes you must call when you enter Canadian water, you call the TRC - Telephone Reporting Center and that is the phone number you have, they want you to call only after you enter Canadian water not before, be sure to have pen and paper to record your call in verification number, it's a really easy process and only takes a few minutes. |

| Never called in personally. Fish back and forth on a regular basis hundreds of days (I live on border waters). Ive been stopped by the canadian guys three times since the whole debocle went down a couple years ago and they've never questioned it, much less even bring it up... They just ask for fishing licenses and safety equipment. The whole thing ounds to me like a gigantic waste of time when they never actually enforce anything or even seem to care. If you call in once though, you better do it every time as you cant plead ignorance after youve already acknowledged the "law". Good luck. |

Location: Glen Ellyn Il | I have also a RABC and that is only valid for certain remote border crossing, for example when going to the Angle crossing from Canada back to US, The last post is right, but why take the chance and go through some grief if stopped. I went on line they have something similar to RABC for private vessel, the cost is 40 dollars and is good for five years, but its not mandatory, I do not see the need for the pass you still have to call inn
If you Google CANPASS they have a all bunch of info on the remote border crossing

Location: Algonac, MI | Yes, you are supposed to call in each day, once you enter CAN waters from US Waters. Call the CANPASS number you have.
Depending on where you cross LSC, cell service can be bad near border. Recommend calling when you have a good signal, and tell them you have arrived to fish. (Also to shut off your data roam, if you don't have CAN plan on your cell.....$$$$$$ roam charges for data)
CANPASS will provide you a Confirmation # at calls end. You need this number, if checked by RCMP or OMNR (if they ask)
Questions you will need to have answers for:
Captain's (boat owner) name & DOB
Vessel name & Vessel Registration number
Vessel type / brand / length
Names & DOBs for your guests.
Anything to declare (booze)
Any weapons on board (NO is the only answer to have...no CCW exception)
Duration of stay
Whether or not, you plan to touch land

If this is true it looks like I can't fish in Ontario waters until I get my passport card. |

Location: Algonac, MI | That one is news to me. However, my last call in was 10/31/15...so just missed learning that one if true.
I have a passport and enhanced DL, but have never been asked for either number, all prior to 11/1 though.
