I am going to Eagle lake and I have the Navionics hot maps Canada chip, is there a better map chip for Eagle Lake that shows one foot contour, Would the Platinum chip show better coverage on Eagle Lake

Thanks Gino

no, not that i'm aware of ... the eagle maps are not that great and they miss a lot. pay attention and get to know the clean travel routes.

I searched for a lake map for another lake that I fish in NW Ontario. The only map that I could find was the Navionics map that you already have. I bought the same map as you.

Frankly, I was quite disappointed in the lake map. My boat was regularly shown to be on dry land rather than on the lake. The data that they used to make the lake map must have been quite "skimpy", as the depth contours were rather wide apart. Many structural elements within the lake were not on the map.

I contacted Navionics to share my concerns about their product. It took about two months for them to make corrections to the lake map, such that actual lake shoreline lined up with the shoreline of the map. I downloaded the corrected lake map about one month ago.

My clear impression is that the Navionics' Canada lake maps are unsupported. They are not investing to improve the product, will sell remaining inventory and maybe discontinue the product. I have a hunch the "make your own lake maps" products are receiving all of their attention.

Good fishing and tight lines!!

Currently there is no Navionics, Lake Master or Lake Insight chip that has 1 foot contours or even 5 foot contours. The maps that are on the Navionics chips are the ones the Canadian Hydrographic Service did years ago. It is a good start but doesn't mark the hundreds of motor wrecking rocks on that lake. The Hotspots map is the best one I've found. We've been fishing Eagle since 1992. My best advice is mark every rock you see just under the surface, watch your sonar very close for breaks when fishing around a spot and if you come up on a shallow part of a spot mark it so you go around it the next time. Stick to main channels, don't cut corners tight around tips of islands or the shore. The lake probably won't be turned over by then so stick to late summer type spots. If it's cloudy and windy hit the rocks, sunny and calm go to shallow weeds. Make at least the first turn of the 8 every cast and don't be afraid to try "old school" baits. When I was there the last week of August fish would only follow single bladed buck tails and deep minnow baits. I'll be there the same week but staying a Cedar Point with a buddy of mine who had an open seat. We usually stay at Andy Myers. They run a great camp and really work to get you on fish. Good luck. Eagle can be an evil b!tch one day and the best lake you've been on the next. Stick to the spots, the fish are there, just gotta be there when they're ready to eat.

You don't think the lake will turnover before the 13th? Gino I even bought the update for navionicss and that was not any better.

Look at the date of my original post....that was from 3 weeks ago when this topic was already discussed...I just copy and paste it...the lake is turned over now...

I would love to see Lakemaster would cover more of Canada lakes. When I was at LOTW, I was comparing both navionics and lakemaster and there was no comparison Lakemaster, Lakemaster way more accurate
