I developed a glider addiction this year, I don't really know why. Has anyone else been struck with this addiction and is there a cure? Lastly what's your favorite?

Must be the year. I did catch my first musky on a glide bait, but absolutely developed an addiction for glidders this year. Started opening weekend with a 6" phantom softail. Yesterday found out in a big way my new liking to 8" hell hounds.

I have more gliders than days to fish. Addicted? You bet! There's many good ones out there.

I like them a lot. Pearson Plugs Trophy Hunter is the best I have ever used.
They not only glide they have a killer wobble also

I was addicted, I've for the most part kicked it, but not completely. It started with Reef Hawgs and Eddies and progressed to Mantas and finally 10" Phantoms.
I finally hit rock bottom one week when I raised a bunch of nice fish and even the ones that wanted to eat didn't get hooks. Meanwhile my buddy was throwing rubber, and while he didn't raise as many fish, he caught the ones he did.
Got me thinking about all the hours I've used gliders, and all the fish I've caught or lost while using them. I consulted my higher power and came to the conclusion that if I want to raise a fish I use a glider, if I want to catch a fish I use something less erratic, or work the glider so painfully slow that I can't cover as much water as I'd like to.

That's my story. Glider free for 2 years next month.

Flambeau ski has it right. I kicked the habit about 1990, and have not looked back. I use them very sparingling. Early spring or late fall OR for prefishing tourneys...excellent find fish bait...other than that, leave them in the cabin, or throw them in the campfire:) Kick the habit!!!

JD I used your mods to "doctor up" a 6" reef hawg. All I can say is, I wish I had more reef hawgs to mess around with.

Thanks for the help on this...It's an absolute deadly little bait now!

This sounds interesting. I love to play around with things. Sadly I cannot claim to have made anything better. Worse for sure I could write a book about what not to do.

Musky roller; glad you had success with the mods.

9 out of ten I can nail, but sometimes there is a problem child that just won't run. Then I drill it out and re-do. maple densities can vary!

Obviously, the more you work with, the better you will get at modifying these. I've done about 75 of these puppies. The Late great Dick Wanasek, from MW marine,  had me doing about 4-6 a season for him. He had the glide addiction real bad. Wish he was still with us.

I did one for a local guy here. he said it was his favorite glide bait now.

I have developed a love/hate relationship with gliders. They have been one of my most productive baits for moving fish, but many times I struggle getting the fish to commit in the 8. Anyone have techniques that have helped convert lookers to biters with glides?

I have over 100 glide baits and catch alot of fish on them. What is addictive is that the bait is nothing without the action you impart. As jlong said the glide bait craze happened awhile ago when Hughes River became known to all the musky world. I also believe it was the first, at the time really expensive musky bait.
