Posts: 2097 | the trinidad will have 4 or so extra inches of line pickup but a non levelwind is a PITA for picking up slack line, at least for me.

Posts: 1100 | i used an avet quite a bit, for rubber, it works but i prefer my Tranx, when ripping them fast. When fishing slow with pumps once in a while, its great.

Posts: 1638 Location: Minnesota | These are my old reels both in great shape replaced them with tranx HG and PG I just can't remember witch one I used for rubber I'm thinking it was the trinadad . Both are in great shape just trying to remember what one I used.

Posts: 1100 | Instead of pumping the rod, and pickling up slack, you can also just reel slow, and then make 2-3 quick turns on the reel and then pause, this works great with no level wind. If i was going to rip the #*#* out of a rubber bait, i would us a level wind reel. If i want to fish slower i don't mind the non level wind reels.

Posts: 246 Location: Grand Marais, MN | If I was giving someone else a reel to use, I would probably use the level wind 700TE. This would be a safer bet, since Most folks probably wouldn't like the Trinidad for a while until they are really used to using them.

Posts: 750 Location: Minneapolis, MN | Yeah I’d stay away from a non-level wind reel for someone that isn’t experienced with them. So with what you’ve listed I’d go with the TE. If you’re buying a reel, I’d suggest the Diawa Saltist, pretty much a poor man’s Tranx.

Posts: 2016 | IMO the 700TE is still the best pounder reel choice, wish they were still made: 1) As tough as they come will last forever 2) Since you manually have to engage the reel - the handle wont engage on a cast, tranx has a much better chance of this 3) no plastic parts - ICE CRUSHER - late season 4) holds a ton of line you still have a high inch per crank on a bomb cast
