Hey Gents,

I just started getting into Muskie fishing, have been fishing the big north MN lakes without positive results. I was told about a little lake in Nw WI that is known for numbers but not size. Anyone fished Amnicon lately? Any success and or tips? Or other lakes in the Duluth/Superior area known for numbers?

You heard right about amnicon. You can also try Lyman which is right by it and also similar

For just pure action yes Amnicon and Lyman are your best bet in the Duluth area. Small enough you can pretty much hit the entire lake in a day. Black and Orange have always been my best colors out there. Biggest i ever caught out of Amnicon is a 42 but many low 30's. Go when it's cloudy.

I've also heard Amnicon is a good numbers lake but I've never fished it. Sometimes fishing those big MN bodies of water can be frustrating. There are some serious lunkers in there but a lot of people say it takes 40-60 hours to land a fish. Keep being patient and putting the time in.

I've fished it a handful of times over the past ten years. My experience is pretty much the same as others. Quite a few fish, but mostly 32 to 38 inches. We have done well with shallow raiders, small phantoms, and small buck tails. Also, do not overlook night fishing it with slow moving top waters. Had a few fun evenings out there doing that.

I fished it often when I was in school at UMD. You heard right, it was an awesome action lake. We had some days out there boating up to 6 fish and it was almost never a strikeout. Biggest one we caught out there was 41 but we did loose a hefty mid 40s on a sucker in the late fall. This was all 10 years ago but Im sure it hasnt changed much. When bulldawgs first rolled out you couldn't skake them off the black and orange regular size.

Lake's gotten a lot of pressure over the years. Numbers aren't what they used to be but there's still some in there. St. Louis rivers been coming back around though.

Have people been catching them on the river this year?
