Location: MN | If a hook is bent will it have the same strength if you straighten it? I got a 45 last week and it fought like a champ and bent the hook on my spinnerbait pretty bad. It's the main hook so it can't be replaced. It's a pretty hefty hook. Should I repair or retire? |

Location: Land of the Musky | Metal will weaken if bent back and forth. More important Q is, how much do you want to see that 50" fish  I would change out and replace the hook.... JMO |

Location: Pewaukee, WI | You're okay tensile strength wise if you secure the hook in a vise and bend it once in a single direction. As mentioned earlier, bending it back and forth will seriously weaken the integrity of the metal. |

Location: Minnesota. | Loosen the drag a bit on your reel. I'm feeling for my likes you have it too tight when you play them.
After the strike/set I typically back the star drag off a bit, like a push with the thumb perhaps 1/5th of a turn and have never experienced this. Also I don't have it down tight to begin with.

Location: MN | James, replacing the main hook on a spinnerbait is not possible, as far as I know, otherwise I would have. If you know a way I'm all ears.
Jeremy, I do not lock my drag down completely but it is pretty close. This fish actually took quite a bit of line out. I suppose if it was more lose it might not have bent. I always tell my self I'll back it off on big fish after the hookset but the adrenaline gets the best of me.
The bait had some good musky juju going so I was hoping I could repair but I'll add it to the retired pile and order some new ones from PSV. Thanks for the responses! |

Location: oswego, il | Most of my hooks are trashed while the fish is thrashing in the net. Quite possible here. All depends on bow bad it was bent. You can bend them back be slow and gentle. |

| I would agree most likely bent in the net or while removing it. I would retire it or straighten it out and only let people with less power fish with it. But in my dreams of a 58" I only use flawless lures. |

Location: SE, WI. | There are spinnerbaits out there where the main hook can be replaced. My customs are like that. I'd probably toss the thing away, and use the components to build another. JD |
