Posts: 251 | I heard of some bucktail makers adding a dab of epoxy or similar substance to the treble hooks where the three hooks separate. This prevents the skirt from being caught in that spot, allowing the top hook to swing freely and preventing the thinning of the skirt from the strands being ripped out. My question is, has anyone tried this and what epoxy/glue should I use?

Posts: 525 | I have been using a hot glue gun. A little dab in the split and you're good to go.

Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | I have always used heat shrink tubing on mine. Simple to do & no mess to clean up.
At one time Bob Mehsikomer was pushing something to fill in the gaps on a treble, which seemed to me was just the liquid tape stuff.

Posts: 251 | I am having trouble picturing how you would apply heat shrink tubing to the flare of the treble, won't it slip back? Does anyone have a picture?

Google "Bigtooth Juice Bucktail" and look at Images. You can see the shrink wrap in most of the pics. I'm sure many other MFGs do it too, that's just the first that came to mind.

Does anyone have a picture? If I remember I'll take a pic tonight & post it for you. On the back hook the heat shrink tubing goes from the twists in the wire shaft all the way down as far as I can push 1/4" heat shrink & it stays in place. The top hook I use less than a 1" long piece & push it down as far as it can go then put the heat gun to it. I haven't had any of them slip back up the hook. I buy the 1/4" wide 8 foot long rolls from the auto parts store (Under $6, Harbor Freight has them cheaper) & cut them to length I want. For the top hook, after you use the heat gun you could apply some super glue inside the tubing just to be safe but I haven't needed to do that yet.
