Location: Appleton, WI | When i bought my bout the dealership put in 27 flooded batteries for my trolling motor. Due to this i really run out of juice on a long day of fishing hard or in really high winds. My question is it worth the money to put in 31 AGM or Odyssey batteries or just put in 31 flooded? |

Location: Watersmeet, Michigan | If you check back in previous posts you're going to find a lot of opinions and most of them don't agree. I've had both AGM and lead acid (four different brands) and none of them has been much good. My dealer said that if it weren't necessary, they wouldn't even stock the blasted things because they're nothing but trouble.
The only advice I can give is 1) Go with as powerful a battery as will fit, and 2) don't spend much money unless it has a VERY good warranty.

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Matt - Group 27's are pretty small for heavy TM use. Go to largest that will fit and you can afford. How old are they and how are you charging them? How many cycles have they had? If you've fished with them for over 100days, they are wore out! Depending on the manufacturer. Have you checked the electrolye levels?
Do a search in this forum for batteries with either Esox Maniac or Shep as the author - read carefully many posts are just opinions by folks with little background in batteries. They speak from personal experience, whereas most lead-acid batteries are murdered by the user.
YP FYI- AGM's are lead acid..

Location: Lake Elmo, MN | If you fish long hard days (like I do a lot) you will notice a HUGE difference in an Odyssey battery (or equivalent). The Sears Die Hard Platinum is the exact same battery.
I currently run 4 in my boat (3 trolling and 1 starting....all group 31). My boat, electronics, and trolling motor, have never performed better.
I can stay out all day, and even forget to plug in.....and I'll still be able to run the next day.
Expensive ??....absolutely.
Worth it ?....only you can judge that. If you fish hard, and long and have lots of gear on board they are terrific.

Location: Otsego, MN | I have a die hard platinum it's on it's it's fourth season as my starting battery. It runs 2 big graphs and runs live wells full of fish for 8 hours and starts a optimax with plenty of power.
My 3 trolling motor batteries are $100 exide regular marine battery's and they are also on their 4th season, with no issues.
So I have a starting battery alone that costs nearly as much as three trolling motor batterys. I'm not a battery expert like some on here but I say get the biggest you can afford, and if you take care of them most batterys will hold up for some time.

Location: Minnesota | I had excide group 27s I was running out of power by the end of the day.last year middle of the season I was getting 1/2 day of fishing. I step up to wall mart group 29 now I have power to spare. I would go with bigger battery over big name battery . Get the biggest battery that will fit |
