When ordering blades from various manufacturers/retailers , make sure you call them and get the physical dimensions of the blade you are interested in using. One company's #6 might be another company's #7,, #8/#9,, etc. The companies I use are Musky Shop, Moore's Lures, Haugen, Worth, Lakeland, Reinke Bros. and LurePartsOnline. Call'em before ordering. ---- jimjimjim
PS --- Lakeland Inc. has a great printed catalog that shows actual sizes ---

They are all close. IMO the more important thing you want to pay attention to when buying blades is thickness. That will alter the weight a LOT more than 1mm-2mm differences in a #10 blade from company A, B or C...

I'm bringing up a recent posting of mine where i addressed this.

"I have tried many of the doubles out there and have my best luck with the Schlicke Musky Penetrator Bucktails.
Number 8 blade size differs from one component manufacturer to another, meaning one companies 7 is the same size as another companies 8.
Also, the geometry of the blade differs from one manufacturer to another.
Clevises also vary between manufacturers as do wire thicknesses.
Now add resistance in front of, on, and behind the blades.
Most doubles are simply put, "hard to fish."
If you don't want to wear out your arm and equipment fishing doubles, I suggest his lures."
Yes, blade sizes differ from one manufacturer to another, but it is also the geometry of the blade, the clevis style, the thickness of the wire, the bearing surface, and the resistance that all factor into how well the blades work.

If you make your own lures you are able to try different component configurations and figure out what works best for your particular lure.

If you're limited to buying lures in the retail market you'll normally test many brands to see what works best for you.

I like to compare the muskie tackle business to the wine business. Both are saturated with much hype.

Your average fisherman is bombarded with choices of foreign made lures (many don't work at all), other lures endorsed by the movie star types, and various others suggested by the self anointed Muskie Gods (us old timers can spot them fairly easily and enjoy muttering jokingly under our breaths something to the effect "I'll bet he makes a hell of a man in the woods."

Some of the other choices out there come from corporations with big marketing budgets or "Professional Fishermen" (guys that pay an entry fee in a tournament and now consider themselves pros.)

Schlicke lures come from a family consisting of a long lineage of machinists, die sinkers, tool and die makers, and muskie fishermen.

If you could get that kind of information on lure packaging, people would flush away far less money than what they normally spend on the latest trendy baits.

I have not noticed it with size but there seems to be several shape and bend/cup differences in Colorado blades 8 and lower. Some are round and flat, some are a little more teardrop, some are cupped more than others. It makes a huge difference in the amount of flash, ease of spinning and how well they work as single and double blades. The finish on the round flat blades, very critical.
