Hey Guys,

Has anybody had any problems with the eagletail bucktails? Because I
bought one last year and I couldn't get the blades on the bucktail to
move so I took it to scheels and they told me you have to jerk them to
get the blades to move is this true.

Check the clevis to be sure it isn't bent or collapsed. If not, spin the blade on the shaft and see if it spins freely. If so, then you got OK advice, but one shouldn't have to jerk a bucktail to get it started.

Hi-fin bucktails are the same way.

Another thing to try: stop the bait in the air by beginning to reel, then reel fast for about 5 seconds just before and after the bait hits the water. Might help a bit.

I've experienced a few types of bucktails that do this periodically, like Chick-a-D's. I love Chick-a D's but often have to jerk it once or twice to get the blade turning. Stopping the bait right before impact doesn't always help
either but is still a good idea.

I've had other bucktails that are hard to start but never an Eagletail.  Is it the magnum version or one of those with the smaller blade?

The other tips posted here are good ones but if you're still having trouble, get in touch with George.  I can't speak for him but I'd be willing to bet that he would be willing to take care of the problem.

Synchronizing an eagle tail is the key. This means engaging your reel a split second before the bait hits the water. You should do this with all buckails, you want those blades to be instantly turning when the bait hits the water to perhaps provoke a strike right away. Happens more times than you might think.

You don't necessarily need to start reeling before the lure hits the water, all you have to do is stop it with your thumb just before it hits the water. I don't use Eagle Tails often but it works on all other bucktails IF the clevis is not bent.
