Posts: 269 | Howdy, I asked this question in an earlier post by a member who purchased one prior to the US release from a JDM dealer but never heard a response so I'm asking it here in hopes of gaining some insight, that said: How does the new Calcutta Conquest 400 compare to the Tranx for those of you who may have purchased one on the JDM market prior to the July 15 reveal by Shimano (that was the date they gave me by the way for the reveal, not necessarily the availability date for orders). Specifically, I am curious how it performs compared to the Tranx PG with the ubiquitous double 10s. In reading the literature its 5.6:1 gear ratio and 30 inches per crank seems counter productive to double tens, however, I have no idea if its micro module gearing somehow compensates for that in ways that decreases the resistance felt when cranking those lures. I do know that using the Calcutta D for comparison purposes, that I found the 400D to be marginal for these baits after having used a Tranx for the same lure. That reel had 27 inches per crank. Furthermore, the 300D, which has the same gear ratio and IPC as the new Calcutta Conquest 400 was barely acceptable for double 8's. So, while not an apples to apples comparison, it does raise doubts as to how the new 400 will perform with these lures. Again, for those of you who actually purchased one of these reels early, how have they performed? Take care, Ruddiger

Posts: 1100 | There is still nothing comparing to a tranx, im a lefty and forced myself to learn right hand retrieve, and it was worth it. Before i got my Tranx HG i used a Avet SX raptor, and it does a great job, but the tranx cast better now i use the avet for jigging.
