I've been using a Rapala 01 countdown for about a year with fanststic results. This tiny plug casts like a bullet on 4 lb. line and can be retrieved numerous ways. I started using these for bluegills, and found that the majority of the fish had all three hooks of the one treble in the front of their yaps. easily unhooked. We have caught as may gills/sunnies, and crappies on these than we had using gulp on jigs. I'm usually fishing open water, so there is not much concen of weeds/bullrushes or snags. The bait drops with a slight wiggle and this past weekend showed that was the case. We caught over ??100?? fish in a few hours and kept about 25 nice gills and 3 crappies all over 8", and lots of tiny bass. We also go 4 bass 14"-17". Last year in a couple of days briefly fishing these with my father on a northern Wisconsin blue green toxic algae ladden lake we caught 4 big smallmouth (17"-19") and 2 northerns a 28" & a 30.5" without 1 bite off! Yes we did luck out in that manner, but this little bait has a lot of potential if you want to finally fill a not-so live-well, or just catch fish.
