Location: Hayward, WI | For that price I'd look at a smaller/midsize tiller rig (but I like tillers anyway). You could probably find something like an early 16' Alumacraft Lunker with a 40 hp tiller (maybe even 4 stroke) for that price. You might find a little more beat up Alumacraft Navigator with a 2 stroke for around your budget too. I'm selling my Navigator right now (4 stroke and asking more than your range), and it has been a great boat for the 7 years I owned it.
Lots of older Tuffys in your price range too. Just check them over well to make sure nothing is rotten - especially the floor or transom.
Otherwise, most any Lund, Alumacraft, Crestliner, etc. should serve you well provided it was maintained well. In a smaller sized boat, a tiller is much more roomy and is what I would recommend looking at.
