Location: Sun Prairie, WI | Looking at new electronics and just wondering how the new touch screen units work. I know when my hands are wet my phone doesn't work the best. One drop of water on the screen makes it difficult to use. Do these marine electronics react the same way? |

Location: Lake Elmo, MN | I used a touch screen on my buddy's boat in the rain and it worked just fine. No issues. When I bought my HDS10 Gen2 last season, I debated on the "Touch" version, but ultimately went for the traditional one. I am sure either way you are fine, BUT here was my rationale........
I use my HDS10 mostly for navigation . While using a GPS in any kind of chop, it would seem to be very difficult to use a touch screen. On my standard version, there is a lip on the right side of the unit that I can wrap my fingers around and hold them secure while I operate the HDS10. It works great.
The touch screen on the Lowrance is pretty cool, but I just kept thinking of how tough it was to even use my phone or ipad while on my boat. Unless you are very still.....touch screens can pose issues to operate in my opinion.
I should add that they really are BOTH fine units and you probably cannot go wrong either way. It's just personal preference I'd guess.

| Sunscreen, bug spray on your fingers....these things are not favorable agents on HD screens. On a non-touch unit I have, my dad almost ruined a new screen with bug spray. Sorry, I'm old-school I'd opt for the buttons/toggle switch option. Less expensive too~ |

Location: Otsego, MN | Had a gen2 touch and it was ok. I have gone back to the traditional. The gen 3 does offer the best of both worlds though. I wasn't dropping 3 grand on a big screen though. |

| Seems like touch screens would be tough with gloves as well if you fish in the fall. |
