I am just wondering what kind of knots everyone ties when they connect heavy braid line to a fluro or wire leader? What's the strongest, best knot for connecting them? Thanks!

+1 Definitely the best for braid.

Yeah I use the Palomar whenever I'm attaching line to a leader.

What kind of line do you guys use? I usually use power pro but am thinking about going to cortland! I've heard a lot of good things about it

I use the Albright knot to tie fluorocarbon leader to my braid. 50# power pro, 80# flouro.

I use 80# Cortland, and I tie to a swivel or some other piece of hardware on my leader, not directly to it like the poster above. I started out with Power Pro but I prefer Cortland because of the ease of getting backlashes out.

With a swivel connection - Palomar finished with opposing half hitches.

Direct connection - Sebile or FG knot.

Either a dbl. Uni or a Jack Crawford when attaching to a leader/swivel etc.

The Albright knot as ajrod88 does when fixing line to wire leader or the like.

Inline Uni to Uni knot....quick, easy and strong....If tying on to a swivel, Palomar always...

I tie my leaders with a surgeons perfection loop at the top...then I tie the same loop on to the end of my mainline....connect them by inserting one loop into another and run the end of the leader through the mainline loop....double strength and easy to change.

Line to line I use a knot that a striper fisherman taught me called an alberto. It looks just like that Albright but not sure if its the same thing. Its really nice for night fishing because you feel it hit the eyelet but its not a swivel or hardware that will damage anything.

Two knots not mentioned yet: FG Knot and Centauri Knot.

I hate hitting a swivel against my eyelet in murky water or at night. So, I tie 80 lb Power Pro Slick directly to 100 lb Seaguar flouro with an FG knot. It is very small, and it slides through the guides in both directions. You can easily cast it with longer leaders still in the guides. The FG Knot is only one diameter of flouro and the Albright is two. Youtube has some nice videos that make it fast and easy.

I used to tie an Albright, but you really have to cinch it properly with confidence. If not, it will turn inside out and fail when you test it. Just keep tightening the tag end, and you'll be all right.

I always use a Centauri knot to attach stay-loc snaps to flouro. It's smaller than the Palomar, and the tag end is tight against the main line to avoid catching weeds. Some people call it the Lee Tauchen knot.

Palomar is a no brainer for tying braid to a swivel or to a wire loop. It's strong and easy.

I use the fish n fool knot. One of the fishing shows had tests and it proved to be the strongest and despite some arthritis in my right (dominant) hand, I find it easy to tie.

I make all of my own leaders and I use a Tie-Fast Knot Tyer for all of my knots, I have both sizes of the tie-fast tool. The magnum will tie +100lb flouro to braid with ease, e.g. using back to back nail knots - some folks call this a cinch knot. Since I started using it I have zero knot failures. With 80lb flouro to 65lb braid, I use 6-7 wraps on the braid first, then 4-5 wraps on the flouro. Then pull together and tighten & trim, its done and will not damage your rod tip because it slides through the eye, with a little practice you can feel it come through the tip with your eyes closed.

My goal is to eliminate as much hardware as possible, meaning as much stuff that can fail at worst possible moment. I also tie direct to my go-to rods with lures that I don't change - no snaps or swivels. If I want a snap, I use Bulldog double lock snaps - they are true double locks and much easier than stringease - $2 each but worth the money - custom ordered from Adam Koopman. For spoons, etc. I put a 100# barrel swivel on the spoon with Bucher super split ring & then tie my 80lb flouro directly to the swivel with a nail knot. If you're worried about the knot slipping put a drop of superglue on the knot.

If you're a ice fisherman or have essential tremor like me, this tool will allow you to tie efficently and securely to ice fly/jigs or any other lure or hardware. I actually had Gene (Stealth Tackle) test it, the line or flouro always breaks first.

It also works great with Tyger and Knot 2 Kinky, if you're averse to using flouro leaders.

Tip: Never tie braid to a flourocarbon or mono loop it will eventually cut the mono/flouro at the worst possible moment. Use back to back nail knots.

Have fun!

Wondering why anybody would use anything but the palomar knot when test after test have proven it to be the strongest knot for braid.

^^^Stop using reason, it'll ruin this board. I use the one Bucher invented, or claims to have invented, simply because I learned it first and has landed some pigs without failing.

A poll of all the pros needs to be taken at the musky shows this season regarding what knot they prefer.
I nominate the trusted Muskie First staff to collect, analyze & post the data here once it's complete.
