Posts: 492 Location: Lindenhurst, Illinois | I have noticed that although I have been fishing for Musky exclusively for a few years now, with my largest fish being 46", that when I catch a Musky (regardless of size) the knees are still shaking. Even follows tend to get me worked up. I hope that this never changes. How many of you still have these issues while fishing for Musky.

Posts: 21 | Oh ya. It's funny, when the fish are biting on lures worked really, painfully slow, that after catching one it is impossible for me to go that slow again for the rest of the day. One of the guys I fish with, has to take a leak after every fish. Don't think that feeling will ever go away.... Tom B

Location: Illinois-Indiana | Dave, I saw a fish on Saturday that made my knees knock in the first 15 minutes of the tourney, it was only about 42" but came at my bait like it was ready to go. We were in 3' of water a very clear, she got a look at my ugly partner and took off. I still get going after just seeing fish, it seems to pump you up and at least let you know that you are doing something right. It's funny how much more you are focused after getting a follow, get's the whole body in TUNE!!!

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | The beast can do that to ya. Me too. Same thing happens when a buck steps into view even if it is not in bow range. I hope the feeling never goes away. My 6 yr old spen some time in the stand with me last fall and was very good about sitting still and being quiet even with deer in sight but when a doe got right under the stand he lost it and started shouting ."shoot it dad, shoot it". Needless to say she didn't stick around long. Muskies seem to have WAY more effect than any other fish. I guess that is part of the allure. Enjoy and may the feelings always be there for ya.

Posts: 1023 Location: Lafayette, IN | I admit feeling stupid on this site with so many seasoned anglers but like a few of you, I am relatively new to musky fishing (I'm an old basser). The couple of dozen fish I've seen drive me crazy. Like the thrill I still get stepping on a cock pheasant or having a buck sneak up on me in the woods. Some hunters at work appreciate the hunting shakes but most still don't understand why I'd drive 2 hours to be on the water at 4am, cast till past dark, and go back again even though I just had a follow by a nice 45er. I equate it to seeing that buck a quarter mile away, watching him for a couple of hours, but never getting a shot, then going back to do it again when it's 30 degrees and windy. Who can really know?.........I just like it!

Posts: 484 Location: St. Louis, MO., Marco Is., FL, Nestor Falls, ON | I've been fishing muskies for 50 years! I still get excited when I see a decent fish following, striking or being caught. Doesn't even have to be mine. I guess that is one of the big changes as I have aged...I don't care who catches the fish...just that it is caught. Hey, we all have to get our thrills where we can...especially at my age. (Somewhere between 50 and death! Edited by rpieske 4/30/2003 2:50 PM

Posts: 32930 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I still get a case of the shakes, but don't get the knee knocking jolt I used to unless the fish is a true pig. I am still sufficiently excited to keep me going, for sure, so I am satisfied. The bucks still shake me up BADLY, especially when I am bow hunting.

I guess I am the odd one out. Over the past couple of years my view has changed. I like catching the smaller ones, but do not really get excited. I think it has to do with the body of water you fish. I thought the guys out here where crazy for calling 48 and 49 inchers shakers and not even taking pictures. However I learn what they where talking about...BR

Posts: 1996 Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | When the case of the shakes goes away, I think I will have to give it up. That adrenaline rush is exactly what keeps me going every time I put my boat on the water. It's amazing how that short shot of adrenaline can carry you through a string of fishless days just so you can eventually achieve it again. I guess I'm addicted to it.

Posts: 3910 | I get excited as the hours pass and I DON'T see a fish. I start thinking, "Man, got to get some action in the next couple casts!! I'm due!!" To be totally honest, my nipples get hard.

Posts: 544 Location: Alsip, Il | I have to admit the knees still shake, and if it is over forty inches shouts of joy come forward, and break into the muskie dance (it is not pretty). Al Edited by Musky Alan 4/30/2003 7:12 PM

Posts: 1430 Location: Eastern Ontario | My friends can normaly tell when I have a shovel head ( huge fish ) following my bait as I shut up. Lmao I still get the blood boiling ( heart pumping, knee shaking ect ect ) but it has to be a high 40s+ fish following or biting. I actualy pull my bait away from following fish under 40 when not guiding. One good thing is that even as a guide I still get exited when clients boat big fish, sometimes almost more then the clients. I will quit fishing for muskies once that adrenalin rush of a 20 to 50+ pounder isn't there, it maybe last but a couple minutes to an hour but the memories will last forever.

Posts: 87 Location: Brainerd,MN | The excitement, anxiety, nerves, knees knocking, hands sweating is what this sport is all about!! If all those things don't happen to you anymore get off the water and go home! The fever runs deep and will never leave. Jeff

Posts: 2378 | I get pumped up when anybody puts a fish in my boat. Released my brother-in-laws biggest for him last season and was sweating and shaking for a good 10 minutes afterwards. Ranger, I too get a little "excited" at times like these.

Guess I'm a little out of place then; I don't get stoked until AFTER the fact...a kind of delayed reaction of some sort. Could be a result of me younger days due to the ingesting of paint chips instead of potato chips, the devastating effects of the Woodstock era, getting banged in the temple by a dudes kicked out board surfing yrs. ago, living in the south, old Army experiment...who can know these things? At any rate, I generally look down at the water and say "daggone dude, see that?" Me concentration level is either extremely intense, or nonexistent; no way of knowing from moment to moment, it either is or isn't at the time. I will later reflect on exactly what happened, and attempt to determine what could have been done differently. There are times I will sit down and shake me head, other times I'll just keep on casting...I just don't know!

Posts: 20248 Location: oswego, il | Dave, there is a decent lake literally less than 15min from the algae pit. Don't be surprised if you catch a bunch of decent bass there to if you goto lake S.

Posts: 358 | HaBeeb, my good friend, you have the sickness right along with the rest of us. When your pulse quickens, your breathing gets rapid, and your left leg starts to twitch like a Tennesee blood hound, and you see the head and body rise out from the depths, all you can do is wonder how in the heck did I wind up chasing these fish? I have been at it for a while, and you know what, nothing has changed. I am worse than a little kid on Christmas eve if I know that the following morning I will be on the water chasing muskies. Good luck this year bud!
