Headed up north to try for a muskie on the fly in mid June this summer. Got my rod and fly reel figured out and have started tying a few flies so now I'm looking for advice on finding and hopefully catchin 'em. Will they be deep or shallow this time of year? Points and cabbage I've been told are good places to start. Basically any pointers, tips , bits of advice to help a first timer. Thanks in advance for the help.

I hope by "Mid-June" you are referring to June 20th and after, depending on ice-out and conditions , there are usually at least a few fish still hanging out in spawning bays on the opener. Hope for a nice sunny day and no wind and doing some sight fishing, IMO - it'll be your best option. Second option would be to locate fish on conventional gear (no hooks) and throw a fly back...Throwing a 10wt "blind" on LOTW for hrs. on end will get old in a hurry.. Good luck.

We should be on the water the afternoon of the 20th for a week. Multi-species trip so things will be spread out. My uncle thats also going has been up there 39 out of the last 40 years. He's not much on muskie(although they usually catch one or two) and not a fly fisherman at all so just trying to gather all info I can.

I like his idea, but If you want to see fish, you're best bet on any lake, not just in Canada is to throw a glider or a walk the dog top water. Like he said though just leave the hooks off!!
