Posts: 18 | Hello all, Haven't really used this style of bait personally that much, but have been in the boat while other have had follows/strikes/fish in the net with them. Looking to add a couple of this style. Been looking at 8" Weagles and Havana Jacks and the like.....What are your guys suggestions for lures in this style? Thanks

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | Weagles are great. Have done very well on the 8 inchers. 10 incher run well too but I haven't given mine enough time to produce. The slower you can make yourself work them the better, especially if you want the fish to connect with the bait.

Posts: 68 | Jackpots have netted me more fish than any other topwater. I also like the smaller size vipers, they have a different action and you can get them to dive under by changing the angle of your retrieve.

Posts: 572 | I've had some luck with the Big Mama wtd baits. Have 3 of them and planning on getting another one. A few years ago I bought 3 Havana Jacks, each one at a different store. I was disappointed when all 3 ended with some paint chipping off. Since then, others have recommended the regular Jackpot over the Havana Jackpot. Muskies seem to miss wtd baits from time to time. I've been told it is best to keep the walk fairly tight. I guess a wide walk may contribute muskies missing the bait. I'm sure others have thoughts on how to work them. wtd baits are fun to fish. Good luck with your selection.

Posts: 410 Location: one foot over the line | Jackpot for me, however, the last one i bought was a plastic and the paint has been getting eaten off (not that that's a bad thing). However, my older wooden jackpot has better movement and the paint is holding pretty well despite numerous teeth marks. Picked up an 8 inch weagle last year, love the action on this one but i thought it might be a tad large for early season fish, so i picked up a 5 inch model this year. I'm not sure if there is a better sight on earth than seeing that big-ol'-ball of water behind a wtd.

I bought a few of those from there for about $6 per. Never used them, figured $6 for a musky topwater was worth a shot. Glad there's some good feedback.

Posts: 156 | My best buddy has caught some fish on WTD topwaters. I suck at them...not my confidence bait. When I use them I have jackpots, Weagles, and One Eye Willy. My buddy uses the previously mentioned Musky Mania Doc with good success. The shadowy purple color, forgot what its called.

Glad there's some good feedback. thats a great deal on a good bait! I had a Great blue Heron expend a tremendous amount of energy hovering over trying to attack my starry night Maas. I did all i could to keep it from biting it. Never seen a shore line hunter try to eat something from the air before...wish I had a gopro at the time. also had a ski bite one in half. the thru-wire kept it together. took it to Salmo near my work and they handed me a new one, no Q's asked.

Insead of going to the pike/musky section, go right to the 60% off salmo sale. That should do the trick.
