| my shore land'r trailer is setup to run standard 1157 bulbs. To say the least i have been going through a fair number of bulbs each year. I am almost wondering if i have a weak ground because of my bulb failure rate. Seems to happen pretty much regardless of plugged or unplugged...etc. I am going to put some sealed LEDs on the trailer this year so which i am hoping eliminates my tail light issues. I have also found a quite a few 1157 LED replacement lights but most of them don't really look like they are made for a marine/submersible application. Curious if anybody else has tried these bulbs or has one they would recommend?

| How old of trailer? I have had to replace the wire harness on each side twice since 2001 on my shore lander because the wires keep wearing though inside the frame. Doesn't help your LED question but blowing lights shouldn't happen that often. Maybe a bigger wiring problem |

Location: Hayward, WI | I have not had good luck with replacement LED bulbs in trailers. I would recommend replacing the complete light with an LED trail light. They are sealed and work well. |

Location: Mayville, WI | Ditto kjgmh. Replace the entire thing with LED - did it on both work boats & one of mine, still waiting to do it on the other. Much better!

Location: Hayward, WI | Going LED is probably never a bad idea, but I agree with Pardee. Sounds like you might have a short or some other wiring issue. I have a 1999/2000 Shoreland'r trailer and have owned it for 7 or 8 years and fish a lot. I almost always unplug the lights and have replaced just a couple bulbs in that time.
I'd suspect a wiring issue, and if not fixed it might give you headaches with LED lights too.
Don't forget about your truck either. I had an intermittent trailer light issue last year with my utility trailer. Did some work to the trailer wiring and still had issues. Hooked it up to my boat and everything worked fine. Still had problems with my utility trailer. Finally looked at the truck and had a wire that had rotted through at a butt connector. Apparently it was making contact just sometimes, or maybe it was easier to push the current through my boat trailer than my utility trailer.
Wiring problems can make a guy pull his hair out sometimes before the problem is found.

Location: Hayward, WI | Wiring issues shouldn't cause a bulb to blow. They should cause the bulb to now work or the tow vehicle to blow a fuse. Moisture is usually what causes bulbs to blow. |

Agree. if you are blowing bulbs, you are getting water in you light fixture.
I'd replace the units with new LED style. |
